We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mohammed Widdi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mohammed below.
Hi Mohammed, thanks for joining us today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Verified 501c3 charities of any type that do not have a high operating fund.
In the end the act of charity and giving back is all that matters. I can elaborate via interview
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a social entrepreneur I believe in
building purpose driven start ups that have a positive impact on people’s lives.
To balance the unbalanced.
Charity is a pillar of my faith so everything I do is with the intention of giving back.
To make money is great but not at the expense of people. Everything should be in its pure form so that way you receive full blessing’s.
I started my journey in the start up world over a decade ago when I realized the corporate world just wasn’t for me.
Wellness is such a critical aspect of life since the quality of our wellbeing dictates how we navigate this life. The better you feel the more you will do.
One of my start ups, Soul Detox. Came to life during Covid when I noticed my clients were recovering after doing toxin pulling(wet cupping/hijama.)
So many people are cleansing their bodies from stagnation which then increases circulation (fresh oxygenated blood flow) all over for optimal performance and mental clarity.
It truly makes one feel reborn.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Before Soul Detox came to life I was doing toxin pulling (wet cupping/hijama)
charity based at community centers and was donating the proceeding.
At that time (before Covid) I was in the food and beverage industry working on a high quality sports drink with clean ingredients (a not so common thing a few years back)
But when I seen how positively impactful the spiritual practice was, that epiphany moment hit.
I started then doing a mobile service where I would go to people homes and do the sessions to cater to peoples convenience.
The mobile concept was great for the time being but I always knew it was limited due to not having full control of the environment.
After Covid was over, the mobile concept seemed to not be it anymore since people were so sick of staying home. They wanted to go back out into the world.
Thats when I opened up a brick & mortar where we have full control of the experience to make it memorable and enlightening.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Failing forward.
Leaving the corporate world was a decision that made sense and felt right. I don’t need to name the company but they were cutting pay every year and making it harder to close a sale. I realized they truly didn’t care about us. Did I mention how socially toxic it was too? Just couldn’t do it anymore.
Upon leaving there was the realization I needed to do something of my own or at least be a part of the bigger picture.
But was I in for a surprise.
The start up world is very difficult. I remember hearing how many people’s first start up isn’t always it and feeling worried about failure.
I didn’t want to fail. I wanted to succeed.
But you come to a point when it’s clear you need to take the experience you have gained and pivot into making changes or even something completely different.
Just know it’s very possible. You just need to have faith.
