We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mohammed Qamar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mohammed, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Creation with meaning.
Our experiences shape us into who we are today all while drawing out our individuality and every piece of art leaves behind a piece of its artist. The fragment that is left behind can’t change the world, but it can affect it like a butterfly, touching different people along its journey, possibly changing them, making them reflect or react.
I had initially set out with the goal of successfully providing individuals with forms of escapism that would have a positive impact on their lives.
I still believe that in order to do so, every creation must leave a piece of ourselves behind as a symbol of what we have to say to the world. As without meaning, there is no true creation.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a versatile Game Designer and Artist with a unique blend of technical and artistic skills, ranging from Systems Design, Level Design, and Technical Design to 3D Artistry and UI/UX implementation. I’ve always been fascinated by the meaningful, immersive worlds that games can create, and I realized early on that I wanted to contribute to this magic.
My journey into the gaming industry began with a love for both games and art. As a child, I would sketch characters and scenes from my favorite games, which later grew into a deeper interest in 3D art and design. I pursued my passion academically, earning a degree in Game Design and Development. Since then, my career has spanned multiple successful projects across various genres, from role-playing games to first-person shooters.
I offer comprehensive game development services, from pre-production conceptualization to final product development. My unique combination of technical and artistic skills allows me to create engaging, visually stunning game environments that are not only beautiful but also technically sound.
What sets me apart is my holistic approach to game design. I believe that all aspects of a game – from the underlying mechanics to the user interface, from the art direction to the level design – should work in harmony to provide a seamless, engaging experience for the player. I also have a knack for problem-solving, often finding innovative solutions to technical or design challenges that can arise during development.
For potential clients and fans, I want them to know that I’m deeply committed to creating memorable, impactful experiences through games. I believe in the power of games as a storytelling medium, and I’m passionate about pushing the boundaries of what games can achieve.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in the gaming industry is seeing players engage with the worlds I help create. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that something you’ve poured your heart and soul into is bringing joy, excitement, and even thought-provoking moments to others. It’s also rewarding to see my ideas come to life – from the first sketches and concepts to the final, polished experience.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Non-creatives might struggle to understand the amount of iteration that goes into game design and development. Ideas rarely come out perfectly formed – they require lots of testing, tweaking, and sometimes, complete overhauls. It’s a process that requires patience, flexibility, and a willingness to let go of ideas that aren’t working, even if you’re personally attached to them. It’s also important to note that creativity isn’t just about coming up with ideas; it’s about problem-solving, innovation, and constantly striving to improve. This can be a challenging journey, but it’s also what makes the creative process so rewarding and exciting. Remember to be greater, and be yourself.
