Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mogli Maureal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mogli, thanks for joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
I thought I was indestructible but I have I have finally found my limit.
Back in 2022 I received an offer of what I thought was a dream gig for me. 7 time Grammy award winning artist, Jacob Collier Facetime’s me and says would you like to be my photo/videographer for my world tour? As a musician, it was an incredible opportunity so I hit the road with 6 world class musicians and 9 top crew in the industry.
Long story short, I lasted 6 straight months not completing the entire tour. I was burned out with the workload and if anyone knows anything about the lifestyle of tour, it is not for the weak. 10+ years as a photographer and filmmaker, I have never felt this type of burnout before which was a tipping point for me and my career. As a drummer, I had a big realization that when it comes to anything music, I needed to be behind the drum kit playing, performing, exchanging energy, not capturing other people do that on the side of the stage.
All that aside, I was eternally grateful to have accepted the endeavor because if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have realized this for myself. It was a risk but with the insane experiences with long term homies, leveling up my skills in both photo and video in a high pace survival environment and traveling along side a great level of pro’s in the industry, all the crazy memories in whichever country we were in and much more.
Sometimes your dream gig isn’t what you hoped for, but you’ll never know unless you go for it. As a creative, it’s a vital part of the chosen path.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The Mogli is a brand I created servicing all things photography and video. I currently niched working with the Hotels/Resorts and outdoor/adventure brands creating engaging content that helps them overcome their marketing problems ultimately getting them sales.
In addition to client work, I open myself to creative/passion projects allowing me to experiment, learn, sharpen skills and make the type of art I want to make.
Inspiration and curiosity is my driving motivation. Learning new things benefits you and your business because I guarantee you that some of those learned skills reflect back to your own business. I randomly tried fencing recently and what I learned is to be extra careful when to take a step forward or back. Either step, you are in a zone of either danger or success. No risk, no reward.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Personally, I wish I had business mentors that would guide me. Freelancing and being a small business owner making a living doing what I love is probably the hardest thing to pursue. Instead of failing, learning from your mistakes, taking too much risk and learning stuff on your own the long way, I wished I invested in a mentor earlier on. At least I have a therapist. =)

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
One of the reasons why us creatives chose this path for the long run is because we have a deep fire inside us that it’s sole purpose is simply to create and keeping that flame burning for many lifetimes. We still see many great artists work that inspired the world to this day and they’ve been long gone.
It’s a flow state that gets us in that tunnel vision mode that no matter what happens with life, financial, world crisis, we have the tenacity to create. It’s a beauty and a curse in a way because that balance everyone seeks often falls in the artist journey. It doesn’t have to though and especially nowadays, there are plenty of resources to keep us in balance. It’s just a matter of intentionally discovering that for yourself. ✌🏽
