We were lucky to catch up with Moesia Davis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Moesia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I”m extremely happy as a creative in my field. Trust me, I’ve had the 9-5 job and my prayer every morning is that God allows me to continue to live this life. There is so much responsibility that comes with working for yourself. Ultimately, it’s my brand that I’m that I’m building.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a fine art wedding and travel photographer. I love my job! Photographing weddings is hard work but the reward is worthy . My couples trust my vision and my process. Most of my weddings are international. So, it was it easy to navigate into travel photography. I photograph several Four Seasons properties yearly. I think my job is the best of both worlds. Sometimes, I’m traveling for weeks at a time. It feels as though I’m living from suitcase to suitcase. I still wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve always known that work ethic trumps talent. There is so much that goes into photographing a wedding and traveling for a shoot. I don’t think people realize how much work there is in the post production process. It’s all about the balance and the battles that you choose to conquer on that specific day.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish my high school had a budget for creative arts. There weren’t any classes offered that didn’t parallel the core classes. We didn’t have photography, art, drama or anything relative to performing arts. I think my passion couldn’t have been discovered earlier in my life.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly, I don’t have a lot of IG followers but I have the right followers. My followers know me and because I don’t post often, they anticipate it My engagement is shocking and I actually know the people who follow me. They aren’t some random name in a comment. I try my best to reply to everyone. It doesn’t build engagement but it does build relationships. So many people have messaged me because of a reply to a comment. We chat and we get to know each other solely from an initial comment. I think the key is to be authentic.
