We were lucky to catch up with Moe Carr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Moe, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission is simple. Create a business for others to not only learn a craft, but to make money as well. For Moe’s Mixes, I wanted to grant the opportunities I wasn’t afforded. It’s very easy to get behind a bar and simply pour drinks in a cup but to teach the correct ways is a personal journey for myself. I didn’t have that guidance when I first started and not a lot of other bartenders wanted to teach or train on the job.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi, I’m Moe. Owner of Moe’s Mixes LLC. Moe’s mixes is a beverage catering company specializing in training, teaching and staffing for bar services. Every cocktail and mocktail we create is crafted with love. These are more than drinks. My love for mixology came when I was younger mixing my Kool Aid flavors and watching my grandmother mix her own cocktails, allowing me to pour her soda in her cocktail glass. Fast forward to present day, I’m an owner, a boss, a woman who’s providing others the ability to make money. Moe’s Mixes was birthed October of 2017 and 5 years later we are continuously growing. We assure all client/vendor needs and concerns are met. We go the extra mile to assure training is provided to each bartender and require all of our bartenders to be certified with alcohol awareness.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Awe man, such a great question. I had planned to do a business photoshoot in October of 2021 but didn’t know exactly what I would do with the photos. November of 2021 I decided to have branding templates made to promote Moe’s Mixes. I decided that the standard post, reel or story wasn’t gonna cut it. I went down my Instagram friends list and messaged my branding template to each person asking for them to post the template in their story. This move was so impactful with follows, bookings and support. The outpouring of love that we received from this marketing push motivated me to keep going. Literally every business is using social media to promote their business and boost sales. I wanted to make social media work for me. Someone told me a few years back that it’s more than getting your own followers, find new ways to reach and connect to other people’s followers as well. All I thought at that time; either they will post it or they won’t but I have done my part and tried.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve had to learn to seperate my individual self from my business. I have been in the bartending industry for 14 years but Moe’s Mixes is only 5 years old. So many times I questioned why I wasn’t bigger or in a better position since I have been doing this for so long. I had to learn that just because my status in the industry was tenure, my status of entrepreneur was very new. All new processes, territory and lessons need to be learned. I had to unlearn comparing my industry journey to my entrepreneur journey. This took me a while to process; with a clear mind ready to learn new ways of thinking. Whew Chile, I’m currently still on this journey!
