We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Modern Day a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Modern Day, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the toughest things about entrepreneurship is that there is almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
The most unexpected problem that we have faced on this journey is bringing our ideas into reality. Early on in this process, we believed it was going to be much easier to produce the clothing ideas we had. However, as we got deeper in, we realized that manufactures may not be able to bring all of the design ideas we have to life. This was very hard to come to terms with because we felt as if our creativity was being limited. We thought long and hard about how to overcome this obstacle. Eventually we came up with solutions to resolve matter, such as compromising with manufactures on design and material, finding local print shops that were able to complete the task, and lastly moving on from overly complicated designs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Modern day is a high end streetwear brand focused on creating timeless quality fashion for creative pioneers. We want to be able to provide clothing to the fashion world that is quality but also different. When people wear Modern day we want them to feel a sense of comfortability and luxury. As a clothing brand, we believe that our designs, fitting and quality of our product is what makes us standout from other brands.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Well, to be completely transparent we all have individual careers, initially the idea of having to set aside money for the brand was different for all of us. Once we established what our goals are & what we want to achieve it has become like second nature. We all decided to put some initial capital from our saving accounts to make up the expenses to get ourselves established and we regularly continue to invest all that we make + our own money to ensure our brand is continuously growing and thriving. We have goals & we expect to achieve them!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
As a clothing brand we found it is extremely vital to invest in your marketing. We are aware of how important the perception of your brand is to the world which is why we are very purposeful and diligent with our marketing strategy. We also make it a point to utilize all of the resources available to us such as: running facebook campaign ads, instagram posts/stories, and creative tiktoks or reels. Furthermore, we make it point to have high quality photoshoots for all our clothing pieces. Modern Day embraces the challenge of marketing our brand in a creative fashion and looks to continue grow as a clothing brand.“
