We were lucky to catch up with Mo Dawodu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Being successful? I think being successful has different meanings for different people. Like everyone has their own definition that they can go by. There’s not a clear term of what success could be to a specific person. For me, I feel like being successful is getting better at something. I think believing in yourself is what it takes to be successful. Whether you’re doing an activity as an outlet or you’re working on your interpersonal skills. I think there’s a spectrum of things that somebody could be successful at. When I first started photography, all I wanted to do was practice. It was only because it was fun at the time. Creating new concepts or having ideas that were only in my head to being in front of me. That’s the exciting part, because it became real. Especially when they were concepts that I could only imagine or I tried and failed. In my current position, I feel like I could look back from where I started to where I am now and feel content with the progress that I’ve made.
Mo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At first, I was interested in videos! I was combining different animations that I’ve seen like clips off anime or Disney movies with voiceovers that I did. That influenced me to eventually want to make my imagination come true. I got the Canon T7i as my first camera, to do videography. I didn’t know much about cameras, but I wanted to see what I could make reality. One of my friends, Chubu, showed me the basic settings of my camera, like aperture, iso, and shutter speed, then my love for photographer started from there. As a photographer, I like when I could use my creativity in my work. Especially when its for graduations, birthdays, or engagements. It also helps when I can satisfy a client’s needs to the best of my ability. I’m proud of ideas that come into fruition and also when I can help a client fulfill their needs.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The drive for my creative journey is growth. I personally think, as I’m getting better at my craft, I have a crazy amount to grow. I think that’s the fun part. I love the ideas that I have been doing recently the same as I love the ideas that I have done in the past. I can still see the growth, or more the consistency at which it happens. I also know I have goals of getting so much better at my craft that I’m shooting cover art for musicians or magazines. I believe those type of things are timeless, and creating timeless art sounds like a great mission to be on.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Recently, the best source of new clients for me has been social media. I think the social media age that we’re in right now contributes to that. Everyone usually has some sort of social app to stay connected. I mean connected to the world, whether its global events, or to family members that we don’t have physical access to. I truly believe it’s an amazing world that we do live in. The apps that I use are Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok. I have links, that are in my bio, that lead to my website where clients can have the opportunity to look at my portfolio or submit an inquiry.
