We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mo City Menis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mo City, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I grew up a huge boxing fan. In my hometown city of Houston there is boxing but there wasn’t much local coverage. I have always visited boxing gyms but I wanted to shed light on the local guys who didn’t get much media coverage. So I attended sparring sessions, workouts, and fights to capture my view of the sport which is called “Behind The Hands TV”.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a huge boxing fan. Ive been an onlooker most of my life. I wanted to contribute by leaving my mark with intimate and candid moments with the fighters I watched. I also wanted to bring local bouts to the attention of those who simply couldn’t be there. I had a moment in Main Street Boxing gym where multi platinum music artist “50 Cent” and myself, playful argued about an undisputed fight between Terence Crawford & Errol Spence Jr. I’ve also have been fortunate to capture earlier fights from up and comers such as; Ephraim Bui, Andreas Katzourakis, Ray Talib Jr and Marquis Taylor.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started my channel I had never shot wit a camera or edited video at all. I enlisted the help of camera man. Sometimes the desire you have in wanting to progress, may be greater than those working with you. It wasn’t long before I had to let him go. I taught myself how to record & edit. I eventually bought a nice camera where I could apply what I learned with more clarity.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
My channel was monetized on YouTube in 7 months. It may sound cliche but consistency is key. Sometimes numbers or algorithms may give a false sense of security or failure. The key is to know yourself and what your doing and continue to do what made you start in fhe first place. Never forget your purpose for your passion.
