We recently connected with M!Lady and have shared our conversation below.
M!Lady, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My Mother and Father and their opposites in rearing cities played a vital role in my morals and values. My Father was raised in a rural area in Mississippi and Mother was raised with the city limits on New Orleans. They are children that were part of a dual parent household and siblings. My Mother helped raise and nurture her siblings; while my Father was the youngest of eight children in the early 40’s. As an only child, which I never had the chance to experience until my Father’s death in 2022, my parents mentioned that they wanted to keep me surrounded in love because growing up alone was not what they wanted for me. They cared for so many relatives, strangers and neighbors and associates. They were loving, open-hearted and kind. I watched them share wit many and provide without obligation or expectation and believed that they will be blessed for the good deeds that were needed. I recall saying I could not see me being that way (never turning anyone away), because some used their shavings for things that they did not need or ask for. Hence, today I share what i have such as clothes, food, my home; at times with my loved ones of course, to get a new start or jump start on life. The forgiveness they exemplified was unmatched and I didn’t see that , there’s no way that I could function in love and prosperity.
I appreciate them the most because they did things intentionally and believed that God will always provide, which He did and as a child I couldn’t see what I see now.
Their unwavering Faith and cheerful giving is what helped me share what I have with in reason now.
I do my best to do things intentionally and with love and with little to no regards. They also taught me self love and confidence and to always walk with my head up despite hardships. I am strong today because of my teachings and intentional and unconditional love, nurture and parenting. They could have when times were difficult, but they stayed the course. So I choose to as well. Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a child, bullying was at all time low. I explained earlier that my family engulfed me in love, who’d doesn’t mean it was that way at school. They taught me to not let what others say affect me so much. Although it was bothersome, it did not affect me enough to harm myself. Words hurt, and I some times did not use the best words. I learned how to remove myself from the situation and find productive ways to release stress and energy and that is where more creative things began to form, I began to write stories, school plays, remake songs and re-enact shows to entertain my family and my peers.
Any advice for managing a team?
My advice to always have people who have your best interest at hear, trust worthy and to always allow your team to see that you care about their well being and their families. This produces a strong and cohesive partnership which will foster success for and within your organization.
