Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mk Feldman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
MK, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
It all started in 2020 when I was working in corporate America in the hospitality sales and events field. Then, COVID hit, and I was furloughed indefinitely. With no return date in sight, I found myself newly pregnant, sitting in a tiny apartment, trying to keep sane. My big “outing” of the day? Waiting in the Chick-fil-A drive-thru line, just for a taste of fresh air and maybe some waffle fries.
As I navigated the rollercoaster of a pandemic pregnancy, I turned to social media to share the ups and downs. I posted about the products I loved, cracked jokes about surviving mom life during COVID, and connected with other new moms. It was my digital diary and a way to stay sane during endless lockdowns.
Fast forward a year later, as I was trying to erase the evidence of my COVID wrinkles at a medspa appointment, the owner asked if I could manage their social media. I had zero clue what to say, no idea how to price my services, and not a single strategy mapped out—but I decided to wing it. I knew I had a knack for storytelling and content creation from my own experience, so I took a deep breath and jumped in.
By the time my old job called me back, I was a different person. I had two babies (yes, Irish twins), and I knew the 9-to-5 grind was no longer the life I wanted. So, I took a leap of faith and said goodbye to corporate America. I started managing social media for a local business, creating reels, educational content, and engaging posts. That gig turned into another, and before I knew it, word of mouth spread like wildfire.
Here I am today, standing tall after taking that scary risk back in 2021. What started as a spontaneous “yes” to a single client has now blossomed into Magnolia House Media—a thriving small business helping local brands amplify their voice on social media. Turns out, the biggest risks sometimes lead to the most rewarding surprises.
MK, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Magnolia House Media, we’re all about helping local businesses shine online. We specialize in social media management, content creation, custom templates, and website assistance—basically, all the essentials you need to elevate your digital presence.
How It All Began
My journey started in an unexpected place: the corporate hospitality industry. When the world hit pause during the pandemic, I found myself furloughed with no return date. Navigating a new pregnancy during lockdown, I turned to social media to share product recommendations and my real, unfiltered experience of becoming a mom in a strange new world. It was through those posts, trying to make people laugh and connect, that I discovered the power of social media.
The Leap Into Entrepreneurship
Fast forward to a visit at a medspa to smooth out my “COVID stress lines,” and I was asked if I could help with their social media. Having a strong background in marketing from my years in sales and event planning. I decided to take the leap, knowing I could translate my knack for storytelling and engagement into valuable online content. And it worked. One client led to another through word-of-mouth referrals. Today, Magnolia House Media is a thriving small business, helping local brands connect with their audiences in an authentic, impactful way.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for Magnolia House Media has hands down been word of mouth and local support groups on Facebook! There’s nothing like the power of community—when a local business owner shares a great experience with us, it creates a ripple effect. I’m so grateful for the organic growth that’s come from these personal recommendations and the strong connections built within local Facebook groups. It’s incredible to see how supportive our community is and how willing people are to recommend and uplift small businesses.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn is that everything doesn’t have to be perfect. For years, I believed that success meant flawless execution, with every detail planned down to the last inch. As someone who always had a plan A, B, and C, the idea of letting things flow and not sweating the small stuff was a hard pill to swallow.
When I first started Magnolia House Media, I was so focused on making everything just right that it actually slowed me down. Every post, every campaign, every interaction had to be perfect. But here’s the thing: social media is dynamic, and business is unpredictable. Things don’t always go according to plan, and sometimes the “perfect” solution is simply to try something new and adapt.
The turning point came when a project didn’t go as expected. I had put in all the work, but the results weren’t what I envisioned. At first, I was frustrated and second-guessing everything, but then I realized: It’s okay. In fact, it’s often better to embrace imperfections. You learn, you grow, and you move forward with new insights.
Now, I plan, but I also give myself the grace to let things evolve. I’ve unlearned the need for perfection and replaced it with flexibility and action. Things may not always be flawless, but as long as I keep moving forward and adjusting, I know it’ll all work out in the end.
