We were lucky to catch up with MJ Vanicek recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi MJ, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At MJ’s Photography, I strive to bring you something different than just digital images. Time and again, I have seen clients go through the entire process to fall short, with a lackluster set of photos gracing their homes.
That is why I will meet for a consultation before your session so that I can understand what your are in search of. We discuss what your vision is for their portraits and see the beautiful heirloom albums to the exquisite wall art.
What about outfits? I help you choose your outfits during our consultation. I travel to you to hand pick outfits for you and your family. I also have about 100 different gowns and children outfits for you to choose from.
Professional hair and makeup is included with every session. I work with the most amazing and talented makeup artist who makes each and every client feel special.
Every wall portrait includes master art retouching. What does this mean? This means that every single stray hair is perfected to ensure your wall art is perfection.
We also come and install your wall pieces. This takes all of the work and stress off of you and ensures everything is installed perfectly.
Customer service is my #1 priority. I make sure every client leaves with perfect portraits to show in their home.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Howdy!
I am a portrait photographer who lives in Fulshear, Texas, right outside of Katy and Houston. I specialize in maternity, newborn, headshots and family portraits. I service Fort Bend; Cypress, Katy, Fulshear, The Woodlands, The Heights and Houston areas.
I started my business, MJ’s Photography, in 2014. My love for my daughter Emma Lyn, ignited my passion for photography. Just the same as I treat her portraits, with passion, love, and creativity, I strive to bring out each person’s unique identity and capture their true personality. These encounters drive my passion for photography and challenge me to use my tools in new ways. This is my artistic expression.
This is not a job for me. I love outdoor family and maternity portrait sessions, and in-studio newborn sessions. I want to create that perfect image for my clients to hang on their wall for years to come. Their happiness creates my happiness. I have created heirloom photos for many families who will pass them on for generations.
Can I capture your special moment?
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
First is customer experience. I strive to make every single client 100% happy. I have a satisfaction guarantee. Between communication, consultations, sessions, image reveals, and installs, I spend over 30 hours with each client.
Second is my portrait work. I have created a certain style and brand of portraits for my work.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My husband was in the military for almost 9 years. We moved every 2 years during that time. This meant that I had to up and move my business every 2 years. Rebuilding clientele and creating my brand in a new area. I have done this 4 times. I see it as a positive. I have clients all over the United States.
