We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Miyah G. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Miyah below.
Alright, Miyah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
Anytime I have a custom order from a customer I make sure I get a good picture of what they are wanting. I make and send photos of multiple proofs and concepts before solidifying a final piece especially if color matching is involved. I love getting to personally know my customers and the stories that typically come with a custom piece. Constant and quick communication is what I strive to always offer to every customer
Miyah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started Groovy Spirit HM initially as a hobby and a way to decompress between shifts as a first responder at the height of the pandemic. Eventually I had way too much stuff made and just collected and a lot of friends and family were asking for custom orders. I tried my hand at a few markets after everyone kept saying I needed to show others my art and it took off from there. I started with just earrings and noticed so many people said they loved my stuff but didn’t have their ears pierced so I slowly started incorporating other accessories into my work and basically anything else I thought was cool. Now I have a little something for everyone. I work primarily with resin, found objects, and dried florals; I love being able to repurpose lost jewelry from thrift stores and use the “weeds” and other flowers that I grow in my front yard, I would guess eclectic would best describe my style considering my pieces range from dainty elegant florals to funky and bright colorful pieces. I want to make sure I can make something for everyone
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to take a year off shortly after starting my business, it was too hard and exhausting to try and balance work, Groovy Spirit and a pregnancy and I wanted to be as present as possible when my daughter was born. I thought that it would be the end of my short run business but I started up strong and heavy once I found a harmonious balance and now I am able to stay home with my daughter and focus on my business. It wasn’t an easy step and still can be difficult to manage a good balance and I frequently find myself up early hours of the morning creating art but I love it and have had an amazing support system from my husband and family
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have worked in some form of service industry my entire work life so I brought that customer service mind set into my business. I am always super happy to communicate, trouble shoot or answer any questions from customers as quickly as I can and love getting to know a little about them at my in person markets. Nothing is better than a repeat customer coming back with updates from the story they shared with you, I really love making those personal connections and I feel like being so open, friendly, and always a positive energy it has led my customers to really form a connection with me as well, everyone loves supporting and doing business with happy friendly people
