We were lucky to catch up with Mitchell Schorr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mitchell thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Most recently I painted murals all around the outside of my children’s elementary school. It took 5 years to get approval from the school board , but the happy faces on the kids and teachers and school staff made it worth it !
Mitchell , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Am am artist , born and raised in NYC. I make paintings, on canvas and on the streets around the world (on buildings and walls even on trucks .)
My paintings are in museums, can be found in the permanent collection at the museum Detroit Institute of the Arts and was featured in a exhibition called “Play it Loud ” 2019 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’ in NYC.
My street art has been painted from NYC to Hong Kong and has even been painted in the center of Rockefeller Center NYC for Ferrari’s 70th anniversary.
My art work is about happy memories, most from childhood.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe am on a mission to bring art work to everyone, as I think it makes people smile, and if I can change someone’s day just for a min . That’s the reason I enjoy making public street art works as it let’s everyone enjoy art .
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding experience I have had being an artist , is someone coming up to me recently and showing me a photo on their phone of one of my paintings, and they told me when ever they are feeling down they look at the image and it makes them smile.
