We were lucky to catch up with Misty Prewitt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Misty, appreciate you joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Starting a business is (occasionally) messy. You have this grand idea, you think it’s going to be one way, or one thing, and then you start the process of launching, talking to people, and you realize it can be something entirely different. I didn’t want a team of people (7 years later, I have one). I didn’t want to be a social media manager – I totally thought I was going to be an event planner since I came from the wedding world. I’m certainly not one (and am very thankful that I’m not).
In my past life, I was a marketing director for a local bridal salon. I knew the wedding world – and I knew it WELL. So many wedding vendors said, “I wish I could have a Misty…” and that’s where the idea of Misty Saves the Day came from. I had my second child, I wanted to make my own hours, I wanted to see her grow up, so I said, “Well, if I make my own schedule, I can be a ‘Marketing Misty’ for anyone who needs one…”
With a lot of advice from the people that I knew that had owned their own businesses, it grew and evolved. I put in my notice (almost immediately) and went full force. I built a website (my husband built a website and I helped), a friend made my logo, and I announced it the day that I got my business license.
I didn’t start off doing things correctly. I made a decision without doing the proper research. I didn’t hire an accountant until 7 months later – right around the time I hired my first employee. It was terrifying and daunting – and has turned into so much more than I could’ve imagined.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We’re a social media management company that operates on the idea that social media was meant to be social. We should be building connections, not just putting information out into the world on behalf of our clients in the hopes that something comes back to them. We take photos that are relatable and not stuffy. We pay attention to the trends without being overcome by them.
Social media is a terrifyingly annoying task for most entrepreneurs. It takes time that they don’t have, it takes energy and effort that they’d rather put into their business in other ways – and we fill that gap at an affordable price that doesn’t break the bank (and isn’t the salary of having their own marketing person). Misty Saves the Day offers social media management that ranges from Facebook, Facebook Ads, Instagram, Reel Creation, LinkedIn, Twitter, press releases… you name it.
We’re set apart from other marketing agencies because we truly believe in the story. We hire people that we know, like, and trust – and people hire us for the same reason. We go out of our way to make sure that our clients’ stories are being told- and they’ve seen great success as a result.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m in a unique position – people already knew me from the wedding industry, and the wedding industry is notorious for making sure that they take care of and love on their own. I had a basis to start from. But the way that we grew? We grew by making our accountant personal. We grew by showing people who I am, and then who our team was.
I’ve got a great story of a client who hired us because I post (pretty regularly) about my love of going outside. I’m honest about it – it’s hard for me sometimes, it’s hard to have time, it’s hard to deal with the bugs (I loathe bugs) – but I LOVE being outside. They’re a beverage company that gives back to the environment. They knew I was the right person to help because I understood their mission.
So often we think the things that we share on social media are placeholders to check a box, to say that we had to do it. But the reality? We don’t HAVE to do it – we have to do it right. We have to make it meaningful. And because we did (in that particular instance), we’ve got a client that we love working with, who added onto their services after two years of being together, and has referred us countless times. All because I talked about walking in the woods.

Any advice for managing a team?
I think it’s important to stay honest. There are days that are hard, and I’m exhausted, and burnt out, and I let them know when I hit that point – and that I expect them to do the same with me. When you care a lot about the success of your client’s businesses, and you understand the role that you play in that, there’s a level of anxiety and responsibility that comes with that that can feel occasionally overwhelming. While I don’t project that onto my team, I let them know when I feel it – so that they can understand that this isn’t just a job or paycheck to me – and shouldn’t be to them. We make real changes for businesses, and that’s so important to what we do. When you can hold onto that why, even in the hard times, you can keep morale high. You have to be confident in why you’re doing what you’re doing so that you can grow, adapt, and change – and get through those times where your’e feeling burnt out.
