We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Misty Malec a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Misty, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
One of the most valuable lessons that I’ve learned from a previous company that I worked for is to treat your employees & clients with the upmost respect & dignity. They are the ones who help your business continue to run day to day.
I worked for a company right around 12 years, And I watched the business owners down talk and degrade a lot of the employees & clients.

Misty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I, Misty ‘TampaMystic’ Malec have been in the music industry going on 14 years. Throughout my journey, I have been a Radio personality, Podcaster, Event coordinator and host Along with owning a company, Mystics Entertainment LLC That provides promotional services for independent artists.
Atlanta based internet radio station The Hype 87.3 was established in 2020 by radio & media guru TampaMystic. We are located approximately 25 minutes from downtown Atlanta
We stream live interviews, music and podcasts on our station.
All interviews are also syndicated on these podcast platforms:
iHeartRadio, Spotify, Apple, Samsung,
Google, Tuneln & more!

Have you ever had to pivot?
I moved to Atlanta back in 2013, To further pursue my career in Radio, Promotions and event hosting. I was still working a day job during this time And transferred locations from Tampa up to Atlanta. About a year after moving up here, they caught wind that I was running my own business and decided to lay me off. I had to make the ultimate decision, Do I want to go on unemployment & Perhaps look for another job? But I said you know, I moved here with a purpose And decided to run my business full-time. I feel like it was God, and he closed one door and opened another for me. Here I am Several years later as a business owner, and I don’t regret it one bit.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have built my biggest Following on Instagram, where I have gained a lot of my business. I’m currently over 92K followers. In the early days of Instagram I would post every single day often times multiple times a day. During that time, it was much easier to build a large following because of the algorithms we’re very different. Posting good content at the right times is key.
Also make sure that you are engaging with other peoples posts. When they comment on your post, you comment back. All of those things help get you in the algorithm. I even engage on peoples posts that I don’t follow that may come down my timeline or on the Explorer page.
