Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Misterman Cheers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Misterman, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My Mother (I love you) always told me, “you’re a star.” Before I even had any creative aspirations she would say that I’m a star. This has had tremendous impact on my confidence and self esteem. Even when I was a novice, I would tell people I was the greatest because deep within myself I believed it. I love you, Mommy.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My birth given name is Misterman Cheers. My Mother and Father were both part of the Black Panthers and Civil Rights movement before I was born and during my childhood. I am the greatest rapper, singer, producer in history of pop, rap, r & b and melodic rock. I also write screenplays with my my wife and I have a ski-wear line soon to be a billion dollar company. I started taking art seriously while on Rikers Island city jail and rehab. The darkest times in my life turned out to the the breeding ground for my creativity.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
An outstanding book by Steven Presfield, called “The War of Art” changed my creative life and work habits. In the book he places great emphasis on working on one’s art on a daily, maybe five day a week schedule; whether you want to or not. He sheds light on how waiting for inspiration in order to work on your art, usually leads to procrastination. This changed the game for me. I now wake up around three or four in the morning everyday and get to work. I don’t feel right unless I do. Art is my therapy.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
To be the greatest artist in history. Period.
