We were lucky to catch up with Mishéll recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mishéll, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been singing since I was a child, and my love for music has been a constant in my life. The sounds have always stirred something within me. Feels like it’s an endless source of energy and pleasure. I love the fact that I can create, be spontaneous, and express myself however I want. Thankfully, my parents were incredibly supportive, leading me to delve into the world of music through formal education. I composed piano ensembles for four hands, different musical forms. I began composing piano ensembles, participating in contests and festivals, and it became clear that music was my path. Also, the scholarship to a music college at the age of 14 served as a poignant confirmation that I was on the right track and needed to stay the course. Being immersed in music since childhood definitely shaped my roadmap. While music requires discipline and hard work, it doesn’t feel like a job because I’m doing what I genuinely love.

Mishéll, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Mishéll, a professional singer, songwriter, and musician who weaves soul and jazz into my music. My journey started in Ukraine, where I was born and raised, and where my lifelong love for singing began. Over the years, I’ve earned recognition in international festivals, competitions, and TV shows. At the age of 23, I faced a significant challenge when I suffered a stroke. However, I found solace and healing through music in Israel, where I composed a wealth of new material. Subsequently, I made the decision to return to Kyiv to record an album titled “Metamorphosis”. Concurrently, my team and I curated an intimate solo show called “Table For Two” where audiences can immerse themselves in the soulful tunes and the stories behind them.
When the war erupted, I was in Kyiv, and after a while, I was evacuated to Los Angeles. Here, I embarked on a new chapter in my music journey, essentially starting from scratch. Recently, I had my first release in the United States, a song titled “Racing,” which is now available on all major music platforms.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Each of us has a mission as a human being, regardless of our profession or what we do. I feel that creating something that can influence others makes a significant difference to me. This process is, I’d say, more conscious and meaningful. I share the things I’ve learned and experienced, and it’s important for me to speak about what I know. Sometimes, I receive responses from people saying that my singing is healing, or my music makes them feel good. I strive to spread positive energy and good vibes as much as I can because life’s journey is a bumpy road for all of us. We all have our ups and downs. So my mission is to make this journey less painful and allow people to experience something pleasant and uplifting, even if just for a few minutes. Through music, someone can immerse themselves in another dimension, finding answers or simply relaxing. I’d describe the way people feel as my mission, and I want them to feel good. After all only when we have resources we can share something with the world. And I want our humanity to be kinder, more loving, generous, and caring.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The art industry is quite unique in that it doesn’t offer a concrete blueprint for success. It requires artists to constantly adapt and learn new strategies. That’s why it’s important for society to understand that art isn’t just about enjoyment; most of the time when you really like something it involves years of hard work and dedication, this is another reason why artists and creatives genuinely value when people connect with their work. Even a few words of appreciation can serve as a powerful source of motivation and inspiration. Currently, people can show support in various ways, from attending shows and following on social media to spreading the word and purchasing art – every form of support makes a significant difference and creates a thriving ecosystem for artists.
