We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mishele Arciniega a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mishele, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I don’t see myself doing anything else that is not music. It is a universal language, something that all cultures around the world share. Even though it is a long path that requires a lot of resistance and patience, there is nothing more beautiful than connecting with people’s hearts. If I weren’t in music, I would still look to dedicate my life to something that brings people together.
Mishele, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born in Mexico, in a family dedicated to sports and business, I was kind of the black sheep. Starting from an early age, I decided to explore the world of music. After many years, I became one of the producers of the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Guadalajara (OSIJUG). We accomplished to become one of the most recognized orchestras in Mexico, which made me very proud. After a few years, I continued my career traveling to Boston, where I got into Berklee College of Music and studied Music Business.
Expanding my career beyond the borders of Mexico opened up a world of opportunities, leading me to take on the role of Executive Producer for Ídolos Latinos on two consecutive occasions. One of these experiences involved a collaboration with none other than Grammy nominee Tony Succar, which resulted in a sold-out show that caught international attention. My success with these two productions lead me to take on a role with Marc Anthony’s company, Magnus Media, where I had the opportunity of working with world-renowned artists such as Gente de Zona, Fonseca, and Mau y Ricky.
Being a woman in this industry undoubtedly presents its own unique challenges, but my unwavering passion for what I do has served as a powerful driving force to redefine our field. I strive to approach my work with artists and business professionals in a compassionate manner, fostering personal connections that have paved the way for my venture into Artist Management.
Taking on the role of an artist manager at Inedita Records, a prominent Mexican company boasting a prestigious roster of Latin performers, fills me with great pride. I also manage two independent artists on the side that have secured deals with Sony’s The Orchard and Netflix series.
Now, I am working for the Latin Grammys, where I am able to continue my work with world-renowned businessmen and artists. I am also the co-founder of L.A Playground, a community that specializes in booking Latin artists around L.A.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Relying solely on logical thinking and disregarding your voice and intuition can be a grave mistake. That inner voice guides you in mysterious ways and knows better than anyone. While I was raised to approach life with a calculated and analytical mindset, as I grew in my career, I discovered that that little voice consistently proved to be right.
It taught me the invaluable lesson that embracing both rationality and intuition leads to greater success and fulfillment.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve always wanted to dedicate my career to the Latin Music Industry, and I entered the business when it was just starting to become a thing in the industry, so at first having people take it seriously was very hard. Persevering through countless rejections and discouraging “no’s,” I refused to give it up. Deep down, I always knew that Latin music possessed the potential to become a worldwide power. And now, witnessing the global sensation Latin music has become, I am filled with a sense of fulfillment.
