We were lucky to catch up with Misha Myles recently and have shared our conversation below.

Misha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.

Music has been in my life, since I could walk. My late grandfather use to have a bar in the basement of my grandparents house where he would love playing the old classics like; The Temptations, Gladys Knight & the Pips and The Supremes. Also, church had a heavy influence in my music career. I used to sing lead on my church’s youth choir and was on my high school’s traveling choir called “Sounds Unlimited” at Western Senior High School. I also was accepted on a college traveling choir at University of Maryland Eastern Shore right before dropping out of school entirely due to familial differences. After dropping out of school, I fell into a very dark period in my life where my passion for music was put on a back burner. I started pursuing other hobbies like crafting and soap making, because I thought I wasn’t good enough to start a music career. That self limiting belief stuck with me until 2021, when I met the love of my life and now husband Herbert Mallory aka Herbology. I honestly have to give him credit for helping me get over my fear about singing and going independent. He made me fall back in love with music again and really taught me the true meaning of not giving up on your dreams.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

My soul purpose is to create music that is relatable, music that helps anyone from all walks of life heal, and to give hope to anyone that is going through rough times. Also, my music is helping me heal my inner child. This has always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?

I really wish the music industry wasn’t as selective on what qualifies as “good” music for the public. There’s too many artists out here that are trying to aligned with mainstream artists and that’s not cool. What happened to everyone having a seat at the table. There’s room for all of us! There’s too many talented people here in my city, that get overlooked because they’re not conveying the same message as some mainstream artist. We have to do better!
