We recently connected with Misha Hooper and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Misha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the riskiest things that I ever did was bet on myself. Some would say that’s not a risky thing to do; in fact when it comes to self they would bet on themselves every time. But I decided to go back to school in my early 30’s to be a licensed esthetician. I was single, living by myself, working a job that never hardly paid me on time; yet I wanted to go back to school. I had enrolled into beauty school before in my early 20’s but it didn’t quite pan out the way I planned. I told myself this time would be different. I told myself “this time, I will finish what I started.” I was already working in my selfcare business Forever Yours Naturals making body scrubs, body butters and hair oils but I wanted to go the extra mile to get licensed as a skincare specialist. It was after I enrolled in the summer semester at Douglas J Aveda in Royal Oak June 2017 that I asked my boss at the time if I could leave an extra 2 hours early for the next 9 months. He said to me ” what other choice do I have ?” So I started my class and a month into my esthesiology course my place of work started to dwindle down in business. I was coming into work and I noticed we were not receiving as many deliveries for incoming materials as we normally would. I knew that the company was going out of business but no one spoke a word of it. A month into school and now I’m worrying how will I pay my tuition each month for class. It was bad enough that I was not getting paid on time on the regular but now to know this whole place was going to be put on the curb made me worried to say the least. I remember praying and thinking maybe I can get another job to work in the spa while I am in school. What’s weird is that I never did look for a job. I decided to just focus on school and when it came to my place of employment wait and see what happens. I was excelling in my theory and practical at school, we had a small class of 4 and my instructors were amazing. I was working Monday – Friday 9am -3:30pm just so I could make it to punch the clock at 4:30pm for class and getting out at 10pm. I would get home every night around 10:30 pm. It was a hard season of my life. Sometimes I look back and wonder how did I do it. That same summer going into early autumn ; I received a random number appear on my caller id. I answered and it turns out someone mentioned my name for a promising job in the industry that I was currently working in. I was amazed and shocked at the same time; then I realized it was that my prayer was being answered. I went in for the interview and a week later got the job that paid more and it allowed me to finish school. Sometimes it’s the risk that you take that ends of being a great blessing or simply the vehicle to take you to your next chapter in life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Misha Hooper who is a native of Inkster who now resides in Detroit. I always had a passion for selfcare and natural healing remedies since I was a child. I would learn about natural remedies from reading in my grandmother’s downstairs library once I finished my homework. What sets me apart is that I genuinely care for others and their wellbeing. I am most proud of taking a chance on me and not giving up when life gets hard. I am most proud of persevering through life’s trials and overcoming what would leave most in a different state of mind. I am most proud of the woman that I am becoming. I am most proud of learning how to create my own formulas and recipes for my natural product line and that I receive testimonials of it working. I am most proud not letting my past failures keep me from to continuing to seek after my dreams.
