We recently connected with Misha Herrera and have shared our conversation below.
Misha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started Local Adventure Mama shortly after having my twins. The idea grew to fruition when I was looking for things to do with my children and friends kept coming to me for the information for themselves. We love to adventure. We love all things for children. We love sharing what we find. I created Local Adventure Mama to share family friendly activities in Nevada County and the surrounding areas. I feature places and things to do. I create content so families know what to expect when going to an event or place. I share a weekly schedule of free events and classes. I create a weekend what’s happening so families can plan ahead for their weekend, where they want to go, what activities are available and when.

Misha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a mom of 3 children, RJ is 6 years old and Juliette and Reginald, my twins are 3 years old. They’re full of energy and enjoy going to new places, having fun and learning. I’m a people person and love meeting new people. I also love trying new things. Sometimes it’s a challenging finding things to do with your children. But our small community doesn’t disappoint with the amount that’s provided for them. There just wasn’t a single hub to house that information so I created one. I like to say I’m not a know it all, but I know a lot so reach out. Let me help you find fun for your family. I serve our community for free, everything I do is free. It’s helping our community and families come together.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
You cannot please everyone. I try to do as much for everyone as I can. I try to search and find every event, class, activity as I can. I’ve found that some how, regardless of the countless hours I spend working on finding things, I may miss something. Or someone won’t like something I post. I do my best to be inclusive of everyone and every event regardless of its roots. I remind myself that people are more likely to give negative feedback than positive and I have taken a step back and just let it be when it may be negative.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built it organically. I shared on my personal page, shared with friends, I tag businesses or events. I’ve shared it into local groups. My followers slowly grow weekly by word of mouth, interactions in person, seeing us online, or businesses re-sharing and collaborating with us.
