We were lucky to catch up with Mische Hubbard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mische, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
The story I’d like to tell is my own. I was starting on the first day of college and noticed the bill for class was due very soon. For some reason, I thought the tuition was going to be due at the end of the semester. I didn’t have time to figure out how to pay the balance without taking out a loan. Had I known about the balance prior to moving to college, I would have prepared better financially. I have many other stories about “not knowing” how college worked. I didn’t know that many of the students I was going to class with had been preparing for college since freshman year of high-school or prior. They had internships, were in relevant clubs, etc. In high school I was focused on being well rounded while my peers were focusing on being great engineers. Little details like that would have prepared me 100x better for college. I realized the issue with me not knowing is I wasn’t mentored about these subtle nuances while growing up. I know others feel the same, specifically students who are from underrepresented groups. That’s why I decided to mentor students, to give them insights years before walking into college so they would have the right tools for success and also have the opportunity to graduate debt free.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Misché Hubbard, and im a process engineer at rocketlab. While attending the University of Michigan to pursue a Ph.D , I realized many students needed guidance to successfully apply, be accepted, and graduate from college. This inspired me to create the Libra League. My mission is to provide mentorship for students students to reach their academic and professional goals. I want to help students get the most from their college education by teaching them tips and tricks to career planning, networking with professors and most importantly, I want my students to graduate debt-free!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I would have focused on making YouTube videos rather than mentoring 1 on 1 as my main interface with clients. Billions of people can access YouTube daily, whereas im limited with the amount of clients i can see daily.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
How to win friends and influence people and the debt free degree helped me shape the scope of my business and learn how to develop positive relationships with my clients
