We were lucky to catch up with Misael Velis recently and have shared our conversation below.

Misael, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission is to help my artist carry the vibe and sound of their records to new lengths,I start by talking to the artist and making sure i understand where they want to be and seeing how we can proceed to making the best possible version of the vision and feel they imagined.ever since i was a child ive enjoyed what music has made me feel and i have always strived to find a way to make that extra 10% of the record that makes people want to dance or feel sadness or happiness whether its through Recording or Mixing.My mission is to take great records and create something timeless and bring out the best parts of the artist.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I got into Audio Engineering about 12 years ago in school i didnt know what i wanted to do but ive always known ive wanted to stay close to the music,i had some prior knowledge with recording as i used to record bands.i decided to take it to the next level by looking to intern under Audio Vision Studios,I Interned under my Mentor Johnny Mars,it was a tough process he held a standard and love for records that took me a while to catch up to.In my internship i learned the usual stuff,Studio Maintenance,how to take care of my clients and make sure they were satisfied with my Engineering Services before the end of every session,the most important skills i learned is Tracking ,Vocal Production,Mixing,and Mastering.It took a very long time to get those right and to this day i havent stopped learning,i love taking on new challenges from Artists and reaching these goals,i am always surprised at the interesting ways we get to our outcome.What i am most proud of is the last album i recorded and mixed for Iman Shumpert that Samyr brought me on to be a part of.It came together so Naturally,The Synergy Between Artist,Producer,and Engineer is i feel made this project come together perfectly.Maintaining that same Synergy is my Ultimate Goal,i always keep my artist vision in mind as well as the producer and find ways to magnify the best parts of the vision.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Being Conscious of who the Artist is and what they need to hear to deliver the Lyrics for the listener,i’m very big on customer service,I go out of my way to make sure the Studio doesnt feel like a Intimidating Environment and more like theyre at Home.Every Artist i work with knows i go far and beyond for the vibe,sometimes making sure i have certain foods,Lights,Scents available.If the artist is not Satisfied with anything i make sure to listen and make sure they are heard and taken care of.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

Theres a ton of content on youtube that definitely helped,but the best way for me to learn was to mess up and learn from my mistakes,im glad ive had so many artist that trusted me with their music,it was the best way for me as im more hands on.Watching the people around me in the studio was helpful in getting me right with artist and building meaningful music.relations.
