We were lucky to catch up with Mirror Mirror On The Wall Interior Design & Staging recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mirror Mirror On The Wall Interior Design & Staging, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea?
For nearly 20 years, we have worked together to coordinate events and decorate homes for our families and friends. We have also worked in ministry serving youth and several church groups. Our passion has always been to serve and help others. Within the last 6 years, we both had purchased new homes and had gone through the extensive design process with different builders. It was a challenging yet rewarding process and we both had the desire to help others do the same. In 2020, Covid disrupted our lives. We were all bound to the constraints of our homes for both work and school. Personally, this caused us to get very creative with our own homes. We knew that millions of other families we’re going through the same situations….where can the kids set up for school, where can I set up a home office, how can we create a flex place? So many things to figure out along with trying to survive during this time. After working to make our own homes more functional but still stylish, we thought…how can we do this for others? We are very involved mothers of 2 college students, 2 middle and high school students, wives and at the time, full-time employees in Corporate America. We had a lot on our plates but still had a strong desire to design and decorate. We knew it would take commitment, time and sacrifice to do what we wanted to do and be successful in doing so. We started our research, created a business name & logo and in February 2021, we acquired our LLC and officially became Mirror Mirror On The Wall.
Our first year was mostly spent creating and stabilizing social media platforms, targeting specific audiences and creating a website. At this time we were blessed to have clientele that continued to use us for multiple projects throughout the year which formed opportunities with new clients using word of mouth. With having full-time jobs we were very busy but enjoyed every minute of it. We were able to fine tune our craft and learn so much about the business. In year 2, we were featured on social media platforms by other designers and furniture companies. We also received our first Interior Designer award in December 2022. Along with much prayer, this gave us so much motivation to continue to move forward with our business.
We were so fulfilled by helping families and making their dreams come to life we knew this is what God had us to set out and do. We were connecting with people not only with work but also spiritually and building relationships. The business became more that just extra money and fun, it was our absolute passion. As business, work and life continued to stay busy and sometimes hectic, we knew we had to make a decision to resign from our jobs or to continue to give half of our efforts to our business while something is compromised along the way. After on-going specific prayers and fasting between both of our families, God sent us the exact same sign…IT’S TIME TO GO! In February 2023, we resigned from our full-time jobs and fully committed to Mirror Mirror On The Wall.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
We are twin sisters, Joshland Wamber & Roshland Hamilton who own Mirror Mirror On The Wall Interior Design & Staging. Our team consists of our blended families, the Great 8, as we call ourselves. We’re blessed with undeniable support from our husbands who keep us going! As twin sisters, we’ve always had an eye for fashion and design. We have our own styles and ways of differentiating ourselves but in the end, we could never get away from our twinning similarities. While we were born and raised in Natchitoches, Louisiana we have been residing in Dallas, Texas for over 20 years. We both achieved bachelor’s degrees in Telecommunications management which is far from our careers but God was setting us up for the future whether we knew it or not.
We maintained careers for several decades in the finance industry. This allowed us to gain vast experience in communication, marketing, people management and building relationships. Although we were successful with our careers we couldn’t ignore that decorating, drawing, fine-tuning and being all about the details was naturally embedded in us! We just love to add a little “pretty” to anything while also helping others. As we ventured into our own interior design business, the knowledge learned and skills used during our previous careers has been key to our success.
Our company specializes in creating, renewing or simply decorating and/or staging spaces for clients. We have experience in interior decorating small spaces such as apartments, specific rooms as well as full home new builds of 4000+ square feet. We offer a variety of services to meet the needs of different clients. Some clients have existing decor or items and simply need help with it all flowing and creating the look they envision. Others know their style but does not have time or want to shop for items so we offer a personal shopper service. We provide this at a virtual and in person capacity. Our most popular option is the full service package where we create a plan, shop and install. In a nutshell…we do it all! Although our goal is to incorporate beauty and style, we also must ensure the spaces are functional for our clients. We have numerous projects where areas can be used for multiple purposes. As we’ve worked with several clients with different situations, we know that having a home or space that’s useful in many ways while still stylish can impact lives.
We are most proud of how our flexible process and ending results make our clients feel. The last day of our projects are what we refer to as “reveal day.” With much anticipation, on this day the client returns back to their home to see the final product! Many of them cry, scream and express their gratitude in an emotional way. This is why we do our jobs and it completely fulfills us. We love making others happy and providing them with a home that is a reflection of their families.
We would like future clients to know that our services are flexible and that we work with the budgets of our clients. During our consultations we take time to understand everyone’s needs in regards to the project including their financial position. Many of our clients split their projects into phases and we complete them over a period of time that works for their budget. Whether it’s Interior design, decorating or a simple home refresh, it doesn’t have to be as far fetched as others may think. We strive to make our client’s “design” dreams a reality.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our company is built and thrives on customer satisfaction. We are always open to working with all clients, spaces and budgets. Our goal is to partner with our clients to ensure their space is personable, functional and beautiful. We ensure that each family is involved in the process which makes it even more exciting for everyone. We know that having satisfied clients create referrals to others and it continues to open doors for all parties. Our unique personalities as twin sisters also play a big part in establishing a different and fun reputation. We strive to develop transparent and genuine relationships with our families to create the most comfortable and rewarding experience. We also tailor our designs and decor styles to each clients’ taste and needs.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our focus has consistently been on discovering the best source to draw in more clients. While we do post and update our social media platforms several times a week we have found that most of our clients seek our services on neighborhood media sites. When working on projects we often show our before and after content on several of these sites which displays total transformations within their own communities. Promoting our work also drives potential clients in surrounding cities and neighborhoods to our website which offers testimonies from previous clients, our various service options and unique portfolio. Another marketing strategy that has worked greatly for us is the most common tool of all, “Word of Mouth!” Gaining new clients from referrals is always fulfilling. We have been blessed with many projects based on successful client reviews regarding our process, professionalism and beautiful outcomes. Providing customized options for each client has helped us gain several repeat clients. They continue to welcome us into their homes for additional projects while offering our services to other family members and friends.
