We recently connected with Miro Muniz and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Miro thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I have a lot of people who I look up to. Learning lessons, thankfully, is a regular part of my life. I’m surrounded by beautiful and kind people who make me a better person regularly. I’d say my biggest hero is my mother. She is the embodiment of showing love to others and making them feel heard and valued. She has friends from all walks of life, and she never misses an opportunity to provide random acts of kindness. Everyone who knows her has nothing but kind things to say about her, and she constantly makes me want to be a better human.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started playing music when I was a kid, and it’s always been a huge part of my life. My current band, Maya, released our first singles (“Valley of the Blindside” and “Where Will You Go?”, respectively) in 2019 and 2020. I released a solo album, “Nosedive Hymns” in 2022, and now Maya is back in full force. This year, our plan is to play as many shows in DFW (and hopefully a few outside), start tracking our record, and become a bigger part of the local music scene. I’m most proud of the love present in all of our music. We laugh and have fun first and foremost, and I think our sound reflects that. You can tell you’re listening to a group of friends – not just a collection of musicians. We take our music seriously and believe in it deeply, but the core message is spreading the fun we’re having to all who join us at a show. We want to share that feeling of positivity with as many people as possible.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When 2020 rolled around, our band had a lot of incredible opportunities presented to us, specifically planned for the summer. Obviously, we weren’t able to take advantage of those opportunities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we all sort of went our separate ways during that time. By mid-2022, we had all but given up doing anything with Maya. However, during my album release show, a few of the members who were present in the audience hopped on stage, and we played our song “Valley of the Blindside” completely off the cuff. It felt like a shot of adrenaline in my heart, and we all decided we needed to come together again for the sake of the love we all still had for each other. When all seemed lost, all it took was being reminded of the fun and the beauty of Maya for us to come back – stronger than ever.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Bailey Anderson (our violinist) and I started Maya in 2019. We were roommates in college and had varying interests that we ended up sharing. We enjoyed art, music, philosophy, etc., and we were the best of friends. In 2019, Bailey mentioned that he’d like to play some country music. I ended up writing a country song in about 5 mins out on the porch and brought it to him. We jammed on that song for awhile, and I showed him some more original tunes I had. We ended up booking a gig as Maya, but it was just us 2. Unbeknownst to us at the time, the remaining members of our band were in the crowd that night, as they were in another group that was headlining. Within the next month or so, we had a full 6-piece band and Maya was officially born.
