We recently connected with Miro LaFlaga and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miro, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner and having a regular job may seem different, but to me, they’re cut from the same cloth. Both require a lot of hard work, dedication, and the willingness to wear many hats. When starting out, running a business can feel like a glorified 9-5, but as you grow, new responsibilities and challenges arise. The thing I dislike most is how social media glamorizes running a business as a get-rich-quick scheme, neglecting the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into it. Regardless, I am extremely happy and privileged to be in this position. Because despite all the challenges, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world.
Miro, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
You know, when I started out as a local stylist, I had no idea where it would take me. I documented the whole process on a blog and slowly but surely, I built a name for myself and my network started growing. Things just started happening, you know? Opportunities came knocking and I started directing music videos. That’s where I met my partner Ash, a graphic designer, and we decided to put our skills together and formed our agency, Six Cinquième. We work with companies to help them understand their brand and how to communicate it effectively. We give their team and audience a reason to care about their company.
I’m proud of the hard work and dedication that got me to where I am now, but I’ll be honest, I still have a lot to figure out. I have a 100 year plan, and I’m still working towards it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have learned that in order to be successful in business, it is crucial to not take things personally. I used to let it affect me deeply when clients didn’t agree with my ideas, but now I understand that their goals are just as important as mine. It’s not about me, it’s about finding the best solution for them. It took me a lot of time and hard work to shift my mindset, but now, when clients don’t like a specific idea, it only drives me to ask more questions and get to the bottom of their concerns. It’s all about finding the best solution.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think my entire life is a story of resilience. I cannot pinpoint a specific moment as I have faced many challenges and struggles, but through it all, I have always found the strength to keep going. I don’t want to go back to my previous life, I want to keep moving forward. That strength pushes me to keep going and not take “no” for an answer. I apply this determination to everything I do, whether it’s in my personal or professional life. I will always strive to overcome any obstacle that comes my way and I will always find a way to keep pushing forward.
