Miriam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Building Something Beautiful: The Story Behind Hall Orthodontics
When I first decided to start my own practice, it wasn’t just about opening doors—it was about creating something that truly reflected who I am, both as a clinician, a mother, and who I am as a person. I wanted to build an environment that felt elevated, welcoming, and deeply centered on the patient experience.
From the very beginning, I was drawn to the creative aspect and design of the process. Designing the office, mapping out the floor plan, and curating every detail became one of my favorite parts of the journey. I envisioned a boutique-style orthodontic practice—upscale, yet warm and family-friendly. A place where patients feel cared for the moment they walk in, where exceptional customer service and beautiful smile outcomes go hand in hand.
Of course, bringing that vision to life came with its challenges. One of the biggest learning curves wasn’t the clinical side—it was learning the business side of running a practice. From hiring and leading a team to building systems and creating a seamless patient experience, there was so much to learn that isn’t always taught in training. It required growth, adaptability, and a willingness to figure things out along the way.
As a female business owner, I was also motivated to carve out my own space in the profession. I wanted to prove—not just to others, but to myself—that I could build something successful while staying true to my values. At the same time, I was balancing life as a wife and a mother to four busy children. Finding that balance hasn’t always been easy, but it has been incredibly meaningful. My family is at the heart of everything I do and continues to inspire me every day.
If there’s one thing I would have done differently, it’s simple: I would have started sooner. I would have trusted myself earlier and believed in my ability to succeed. That confidence grows over time, but looking back, I realize it was always there—I just needed to lean into it.
For young professionals considering starting their own practice, my advice is this: don’t let the unknowns of the business side hold you back—you can learn it. Surround yourself with the right people, stay open to growth, and focus on what truly matters. Treat people well, provide excellent orthodontic care, and stay true to your vision. And most importantly, believe in yourself—you can do anything you put your mind to.
At the end of the day, when you lead with purpose and passion, you can create something truly special. I’m incredibly proud of what Hall Orthodontics has become, and deeply grateful for the journey—and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was raised with strong moral values and a deep work ethic. My parents came from very little and taught me the importance of hard work and dedication. They always guided me, believed in me, and instilled a foundation that continues to shape both my life and my career.
Before orthodontics, I was a college soccer scholar-athlete and captain of my Division I women’s team. That experience had a lasting impact on who I am today. It taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of showing up every day—even when it’s hard. More importantly, it shaped my leadership skills and reinforced the value of teamwork, which has been essential in building and leading my practice.
What drew me to orthodontics was the transformation—the ability to create beautiful smiles and see the confidence that comes with that. Watching a patient’s before and after and seeing their self-esteem grow is incredibly rewarding and continues to motivate me every day.
I’m most proud of what we’ve built at Hall Orthodontics. Every single team member has contributed to the growth of the practice, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. It has truly been a collective effort.
One of the most unexpected and meaningful parts of this journey has been the connection between the design of the practice and the design of the smiles we create. Designing the office myself became an extension of the same creativity I bring to my clinical work, and seeing those two come together has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
At the end of the day, everything I do is rooted in making a positive impact—through creating confident smiles, building a strong team, and setting an example for my children of what it means to work hard and pursue something you believe in.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Excellence in our field is rooted in integrity and intention. We believe in unwavering honesty and in caring for every patient as if they were family—elevating the patient experience while delivering refined, personalized orthodontic care and beautifully confident smiles.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If given the opportunity to start over, I would absolutely choose the same profession and specialty again. I’m especially passionate about the artistry involved in designing a smile—balancing symmetry, refining facets, and perfecting dimensions to create something both functional and beautiful. The ability to blend science with aesthetics and make a meaningful impact on someone’s confidence is what makes this work so fulfilling and inspiring to me.
