We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miriah Stacy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriah , thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My mom was my #1 supporter. I definitely am grateful to have been able to give her flowers while she was on this plane. My mom instilled in me certain values that help me get through everyday.
A value she instilled in me was to “pat myself on the back”. In this industry, things move very fast paced. After accomplishing something, it’s important to always be thinking about what’s next. However, sometimes always rushing to what’s next, can interfere with your presence in the moment. I’m thankful she told me to celebrate myself. Not a lot of people may think of every win you have. It’s important to congratulate yourself on every accomplishment, no matter how small.
Something else she instilled in me was to dot my i’s and cross my t’s. She taught me to be punctual. She was an English/Reading teacher. Being a teacher is one of the most important jobs in life. Without teachers, the next generations to come wouldn’t have any guidance. By being punctual, not only in the classroom, but in life as well; you can avoid simple mistakes that could cost you a lot.
She also taught me to not value people’s opinions’ more than my own. I always had a different type of style.. Even when it comes to my productions, the way I put everything together is unlike anyone else, because it comes from my own creativity. Sometimes people will try to add their 2 cents to something you have created. It’s ok to listen to peoples’ opinions, but it’s more important to tell people “thankyou, but no” also. Sometimes people will try to influence what they have no control over. I feel like it’s innate in everyone to want to feel included in something. Although, it’s important to own your creativity and not let anybody take it away from you or misuse it.

Miriah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started doing acting and plays when I was younger. Furthermore, I found a love for writing scripts in middle/high school. I realized, I not wanted to not only play a role; I wanted to be able to put together entire productions as well. My first production I put together was in 2019. It was a film entitled “Let Me Tell You The Story of My Soul”. It was a partial part of a larger project I had written about the outcasts of society. I like to write stories and produce content for people that don’t have a voice; or whose stories have never been told.
I am very proud of the project I’m working on currently. It’s entitled: “Reality of Women in the Industry”. I have a a show in which I interview/and dig deeper into the lives of women in the entertainment industry.
I want people that see my work to know it’s original. Also I want them to know that my work is meant so people can have a larger voice about issues that are important to discuss. People can support my show “Reality of Women in the Industry” by following @rowitiofficial on Insta.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Whenever I shoot a production, I have a team. It’s important to have a positive energy always concerning everything. When you as the producer/director seems stressed, others might start to feel uneasy about things. Also it’s important to let your team help you. The purpose of having a team is so that you won’t have to do everything yourself. This is something I had to learn because when you’ve been let down at times, it takes a minute for you to trust people again.
Although it’s important to trust your team, trust yourself first. If anyone is giving you any negative vibes; or any vibes where they aren’t doing the work, cut ties respectfully at the beginning. You don’t want to have to be hassling a person to learn lines or fulfill their roles later on. If anything, give someone one opportunity to regain the right morale. If they don’t want to be a part of what your doing, don’t take it personally, even if they are a friend. You have to treat your art like a baby. Not everyone is going to understand the dedication that you put into it, but don’t let anyone disrespect it.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A story that shows my resilience is the story of my pregnancy. When I was pregnant, I was on my own. My child’s father didn’t provide a healthy situation for me at the time, so I got out of the situation. He had told me he didn’t want anything to do with me or my child. I was staying with him and I remember him getting all of my things and bringing them to the front lawn; and then telling me to leave. Not even a day later, he was telling me to come back. I think alot of times people stay in bad situations because they are scared to take a leap of faith. I felt something might happen to me if I had stayed. I was homeless and pregnant. I stayed in hotels and then a studio I had gotten around that time. Every morning, I would wake up and go to the truck stop to shower. Nevertheless, I kept pushing on my own. I was determined to be stable when my daughter entered the world, and because of God, I am now. I will continue to strive for greatness in everything I do.
