We were lucky to catch up with Miranda Writes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Miranda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents have raised my brother and I with unconditional love and the incredible delusion of being confident in whatever/whoever we want to be. When people hear the word “delusion” the initial reaction may be perceived as negative but it’s not. I love this quote by Christian Nestell Bovee – “No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities”. It’s a powerful sentiment that in life we get so caught up in our daily lives it’s easy to place our wildest dreams on the back burner out of fear and contemplation of what’s attainable. It takes that inner spark, that inner fight, that inner “delusion” that no matter the odds somehow you’ll find a way to win. My parents have always fully supported my music career and thanks to them I’ve made memories of a lifetime and have had the chance to see the world. Love you Mom! Love you Dad!!! I keep pushing because of you.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always loved music. I’m a diehard music fan first and foremost and always will be, I literally can’t go a day without it. I started off making poetry towards the end of high school and then eventually started making songs. I started going to Park Jams, any Hip Hop event I could find, submerged myself in all aspects of the culture and haven’t looked back since. I love people and I love sports so my musical abilities eventually revealed my hosting abilities and just overall element of being an entertainer. Put me in front of any crowd and I won’t leave that stage until I see all smilies. Music.. entertainment.. it’s an energy thing.
As far as proud moments.. hmm.. I’m proud to say leading diversity initiatives within the extreme sports community has been quite an honor. So much so, that Forbes Magazine picked up my story as being the first female to do it. Another proud moment is the history I’ve made with the world famous Harlem Globetrotters. I’m their first international female emcee in 98 years. Second female tour emcee. I’m thankful.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Be diehards for the free stuff and reach into your pocket for the other stuff. hehe.
It’s free to share your favorite artist.. support them by adding their song to their playlist, text that link to a friend, share it on social media. ANYTHING and everything helps us. Seriously!
On a different note, let’s normalize paying independent and upcoming artists for their time. Our mentality is typically well everyone is doing it so I’ll get someone else for less money or no money at all.. but guess what! Our souls, our talents, our energy does very much have a value. Support that value by paying creatives properly and happily.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I learned the business side of the music industry more when I first entered it. It’s a cold game.. layer up and learn it.
