Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Writes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda , appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I think creatives take risks everyday. There’s no rule book or clear blueprint on exactly how to be successful as a musician. There’s wins and losses, up’s and down’s and I think you have to be strangely comfortable with accepting that. If you’re looking for a straight stability path then I don’t think this industry would be appealing but I think there’s a passion and love that is embedded in the soul of every creative that keeps us going.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a Hip Hop artist from New York who started off very much in the grass roots of Hip Hop. I spent the early days of my career in park jams, community events, and just anywhere I could find a mic. I had a lot of legends pass me the mic and encourage me along the way. Shout outs to Ice T, Rakim, Chuck D, Grandwizard Theodore, T La Rock, DJ Red Alert, Keith Shocklee, Afrika Islam, just to name a few.
I’m a lover of all genres and definitely a free spirit so now my music has a lot of high energy, feel good, pop undertones. I’m constantly challenging myself to create something new and a bit different from my last project.
I’m also an avid snowboarder and am the official ambassador for Burton Snowboards. I have the pleasure of being a friend of Red Bull and love collaborating with them as well. I’m the tour emcee for the World Famous Harlem Globetrotters and we just got off of a five month tour which was one of the best experiences of my life.
My latest releases Taylor Swift and No Problems are super vibey and I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed creating them!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of the things we used to talk about constantly in the early stage of my career was that Hip Hop was formulated and created from the idea that Hip Hop is about peace, love, unity, and having fun. I strive to do just that.. for both myself and others.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I know it sounds so funny Ha lol! But creatives we really are like aliens. The way we think and go about life is so different. A lot of people don’t understand our thought patterns or why we do the things we do. Why we spend so much time going to the lengths we go through for our dreams but it’s just something that I feel like is embedded in the soul that says keep pushing. We believe when no one else believes, we’ll fight for what we want even when we’re exhausted, we’ll smile through the tears because we love the journey as much as we love the end goals we have in mind.
