Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Olson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
When I first started Crafty Mama Mir, I was a little impulsive when buying supplies. To the point that my first batch of earrings I ended up scrapping completely because the clay was not the quality I desired. I ended up buying 5 different $50 pasta presses before I decided enough is enough, and that I would invest in a better press. I use the Atlas 180 that has been modified, but if I could start over, I would buy a Lucy right off the jump, and save myself 100’s! My biggest tip is to research the materials you use, and buy according to purpose. An example is that not all clay is durable and meant for wear. Some clay is meant for model art, or art that is not being touched everyday.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started Crafty Mama Mir in 2020, when many people discovered new hobbies! I was stir crazy and needed something to do, so I ordered all the supplies, and got to work! Almost 3 years in to Crafty Mama Mir, and we have shipped over 1,200 orders to 40+ states! Crafty mama Mir started as exclusively earrings, but over the past year I have ventured in to wall hangings, sun catchers, keychains, magnets, and more (all available on my website craftymamamir.com). Outside of Clay, my bestie and I (Blossom Custom Designs) have started to do more collaborations that include incorporating both of our craftiness, and love for all things floral and Taylor Swift!
One thing I am most proud of is the fact I never gave up. In 2021, I hit a lull in sales and engagement across social media. If there was ever a time I was going to throw in the towel, it came right before my second daughter’s birth. But instead of calling it quits, I took 6 weeks off, and came back inspired and ready to create! Ultimately, Crafty Mama Mir is a creative outlet for me, and a way to get my hands dirty.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Ah don’t we all just LOVE social media?! It is a beast to tackle, and when you throw in the amount of platforms there are, it can be really overwhelming. When I first started Crafty Mama Mir, I grabbed the user name on all socials, but really dived in to FB/Insta. I have found what works on Instagram, doesnt directly translate to other platforms, so while I figured out Insta, I took a break from the others. I grew my following in social media by being very transparent on my personal socials, and basically begged people to help me out, and somehow it worked! I have done over 50+ giveaways since starting my business, and I think this has really helped grow my accounts as well!
So if you are reading this far, I would love to ask you to go follow @crafty_mama_mir on social media, and help me continue to grow!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Markets! Social media has a great reach, but getting my product in front of people, and letting them see the detail up close and how experiencing how light weight they are, is one of the best ways to get new clients!
