Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Mullings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ve always been a writer, but I never imagined I would be an entrepreneur.
I’ve spent many years growing into this version of myself. My foundation in writing comes from first being trained as a journalist and then obtaining a Bachelor’s with Honors in Writing, plus a Master’s in the humanities. In my professional life, I’ve long worked as a “communications” contractor, which means I’ve gained experience doing some of everything in the marketing world. For example, I’ve written and edited speeches for high-level officials, press releases for international media, academic papers, promotional video scripts, and social media content.
I wouldn’t change anything about how I got here — my experiences have shaped the kind of businesswoman I am today, and without them, I wouldn’t have such a breadth of knowledge.
I apply my diverse skills to my freelancing by offering content and copywriting for the gamut of digital marketing arenas, including website copy, blogs, email marketing and brand messaging.

Miranda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I always joke that my mom chose my career for me. She read aloud to me every night – even in the womb – until I could read on my own. Reading seamlessly flows into writing, and so did I. I was the kid writing the next hit singles for my neighborhood girl gang (this was the era of the Cheetah Girls).
I was the only kid in middle-school home ec class who opted to write a 20-page essay rather than tote around the plastic, screaming “baby” for a week. For most of my life, I’ve been deathly afraid of public speaking and anything that would draw attention (hence my avoidance of dragging the fake baby around the school). For the longest time, I couldn’t speak without my pubescent voice cracking, stuttering, and turning beet-red in embarrassment. Putting my thoughts on paper was the best way for me to communicate.
While I grew out of these childhood struggles, writing is still my identity. I’m a creative copywriter who lives to tell people’s stories. Everybody has a story worth telling. As humans, we are hardwired to care about stories and emotions. I intuitively draw out these genuine stories that speak much louder than clickbaity headlines or inflated statistics.
I serve small business owners with my strategic communication and digital marketing skills. Some of my favorite industries to write for are travel, culture, lifestyle, health, and fashion.
I offer blogging, email marketing, website copy, brand messaging and voice, and more.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m commonly asked, “Why do you write for women-owned businesses?”
I’m lucky that I was raised by a true woman’s woman — my mom, a feminist before it was a buzzword. She raised me to become cognizant of how marginalized communities are stronger together.
The status quo has benefitted from women being sidelined in business and finances and being pitted against each other as competition. We know that financial freedom, finally being achieved by our generation, is key to living a life we love. And what we can achieve when we lift each other up is unlimited.
I see myself as just one ingredient in female founders’ recipe for success. With my writing, I help small, women-owned businesses cut through the noise to communicate their value.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Learning that there are many places to find community was a game-changer for me. Finding people to lean on for support (who don’t see you as their competition but rather as a peer) makes entrepreneurship much less lonely. I’ve been really grateful to find these people on social media and learn and grow together as we support each other’s dreams.
