We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Miranda Malone-Solomon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Miranda below.
Miranda , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
What I’m getting ready to share is so personal. But I know that it’s God’s plan. When I was young I could honestly say I knew my parents as just that, my mother and father. But when I became an adult, I began to learn so much more about them. Their stories, what they endure growing up, and how their childhoods transformed them. I always felt it was inspiring. As time went on, I would encounter strangers of all walks of life who would just open up to me. These people would share very personal information about their lives and their families. While giving them words of encouragement, I would feel God speaking through me to them. I would tell my dad about all my encounters and he pointed out that it was a gift. I have been waiting to start a podcast for years, but it wasn’t until I realized why God created me that I knew what my podcast needed to be about. To know your purpose is a profound experience. To share it makes you vulnerable, and I believe that there is strength in vulnerability.
Miranda , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
If I had to describe myself, I always say, I don’t know anyone busier than me. LOL I’m an extremely hard worker, always have been. It genuinely brings me peace to be productive. My podcast is my passion. I have been working on it for 2 years now. I sometimes think my vision for perfection has hindered my progress, but then I remind myself that time is an illusion. My intention with my podcast is to create a pure place for people to open up and share their testimony. While at the same time, giving our viewers a blueprint on life. My concept is to allow my viewers to one day become my guest. I truly believe every individual’s life is a movie, book, or short film waiting to be consumed. The key component missing is a platform and I’m here to provide it. I’m most proud of the hard work I have put into my purpose. I want people to know that once you identify God’s plan for you there’s no limit to how far you may go and most importantly who you may bless along the way.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I think about a lesson I have learned, but then had to unlearn. I think about the younger me. The person who thought she needed everyone’s approval, opinion, and guidance to pursue my goals. I remember being with a group of friends and family sharing my vision, and someone responding why you? Who are you? That statement alone created doubt. As a young child growing up you are taught to listen to adults and friends to learn and grow. What you have to unlearn as an adult is that what you see, know and feel within those same people may not fit who you really are or trying to be and that’s ok.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The most valuable advice I have ever received was to invest in myself. I started by taking any additional funds I may receive and investing them in my passion. This effort included saving my annual bonus from my 9-5. Then budgeting each weekly check and using the excessive funds to purchase equipment. My website designer, photographer and even my content space are all small business owners seeking to grow in their passion. With these steps and working with individuals who are just as passionate as you are, helps us create a better sense of community. My advice would be to network early and build your team. Surrounding yourself with other hardworking tenacious people will be an asset as each of you pursue to build a name for your respective brands.
