Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Longoria. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about how you identified some of your key partners/vendors and how you made those relationships work?
In the wedding industry, whether you are a photographer, a florist, a wedding planner, etc, you need a good solid network of like-minded business professionals to refer and work with. One of the best ways to do this is getting involved in local networking groups and/or organizations that are specific to your industry. We have several in the DFW area for wedding professionals and I have been blessed to be exposed to some amazing event professionals through these organizations. In 2018, a business associate and myself even created one of our own. We started a networking group for women in the wedding industry and named it Boss Babes, Denton DFW Tx.
The reason we decided to do this was because we felt other networking groups were more polished and button-up. We wanted something more laid-back and social where women could come and relax and fellowship with one another while also encoring each other in this very competitive industry. We wanted a place where competition was set aside and community took over.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I graduated with a BA in Journalism from Sam Houston State University in 1997. After about 12 years in the corporate world doing Advertising and Marketing, I decided to take my photography dreams full-time. I started with family and children portraiture and expanded into weddings 10 years ago. My passion is documenting the history of each family I work with, the smiles and laughter, tears and joy. My style is documentary and journalistic with deep rich colors and meaningful emotions. Photographing events and portraits will always be my first love.
Since co-founding Boss Babes, I’ve found my other passion is empowering other women entrepreneurs to become successful through chasing their dreams and creativity. I feel like I am exactly where I am suppose to be at this moment in my life, professionally and personally, and am so blessed to have had women and other business owners help direct me down this path.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Miranda Longoria Photography partnered with a video team a few years ago. I met Rachael and Michael Moon of Virtureel Weddings at a wedding about 5 years ago where we were both hired. They were hired for video and I was hired for photography. We realized very quickly that we worked incredibly well together, providing a high quality service for the client that felt like a team effort without fighting over valuable time with the client. From there we decided to develop specialized packages for clients that included both photo and video that utilized the best of all our services. It’s been a successful partnership ever since with dozens of happy clients from Texas to Colorado and beyond.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had learned earlier the value of partnering with other vendors in my industry and networking to expand my reach. For so many years I was out there trying to everything by myself. It was lonely and hard work. Especially as a business of one. When I found my tribe within the wedding industry through organizations and groups, my world opened up and my work expanded. It was less lonely and definitely more fun. Now I encourage any new business owner to get involved in their industry and community to meet people and share their products and services in a social setting.
