Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Jenkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When I was 21, moving into a new apartment, getting a dog was the last thing on my mind. But life had other plans. One night, I came home from a friend’s birthday party to a surprise—my roommate had brought home a tiny puppy! We had joked about naming a boy dog “Bam Bam” after The Flintstones, but since this little furball was a girl, “Pebbles” felt perfect.
Pebbles and I bonded instantly. Before her, I loved being out and about, but suddenly, I had a reason—and someone special—to come home to. She taught me what unconditional love truly meant.
Pebbles changed my life in ways I never expected. Without her, I wouldn’t have discovered my passion for caring for animals, or founded Pebbles Pet Services. Naming the business after her felt like the only choice—because without Pebbles, I wouldn’t have found my calling, my career, or this incredibly fulfilling journey.

Miranda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
At Pebbles Pet Services, we treat your pets like family. We specialize in drop-in visits, daily dog walks, overnight stays, and cat care, ensuring that your furry friends receive the best care possible.
If I were leaving my beloved pet with someone while I was out of town, I’d want daily updates and pictures, and to know that the caregiver was available anytime for questions or concerns. That’s exactly what we provide to each of our clients! Our mission is to ease your anxiety and stress about leaving your pets at home, so you can fully enjoy your time away.
We are also there for you in a pinch, offering last-minute dog walks and feedings if you’re stuck at work late or your plane is delayed. We’re available on most major holidays and accept bookings up to a year in advance.
With over 100 five-star reviews from our clients, it’s clear we’re doing something right. Choose Pebbles Pet Services for reliable, loving care that gives you peace of mind.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Having spent eight years in the service industry, I was accustomed to the erratic income it provided. Some weekends, I’d make my entire rent in just two days; other weeks, I’d be dipping into my savings. I craved stability, so I transitioned to healthcare. But within a year, COVID-19 hit, turning everything upside down.
It all began innocuously enough: checking on a cat while someone was out of town or walking a dog while its owner was at work. Before long, I realized I was earning more caring for animals than at the doctor’s office. Plus, dogs were far more pleasant company than humans.
Taking a leap of faith on Memorial Day Weekend 2023, I decided to make pet care my sole profession. I started by posting fliers and stickers around nearby neighborhoods. Now, I have an ad in Coffee News and have even been featured on CBS Local News!
Today, my business is insured and bonded, staffed with multiple sitters, and boasts over 10 years of experience with all types of pets and breeds. The journey has been challenging, but I haven’t looked back since.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that starting a service-based business doesn’t always require a lot of capital. When I launched Pebbles Pet Services, I realized that walking dogs didn’t need fancy tools or big investments. A leash, doggy bags, a harness, and a flashlight were pretty much the essentials.
The most challenging part? Getting the word out. But even there, social media became my secret weapon. With a few posts, some clever engagement, and a lot of passion, I was able to build a loyal community of pet owners. It just goes to show that with the right mindset and resourcefulness, you don’t need deep pockets to start something meaningful.
