We were lucky to catch up with Miranda Cram recently and have shared our conversation below.
Miranda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Firstly, I am a wife and mother to my two beautiful children. The intense rebirth I personally experienced after becoming a mother was life changing. I always knew birth work would be in my future. After becoming a certified birth doula, I dove deep and pondered for years where my role would be as a birth worker & how I could best serve my community. I knew I was where I was meant to be in birth work but something wasn’t fully clicking for me.
I have always loved being behind the camera and taking photos of my children, capturing our real life moments. Which years later has led me combining my two passions: birth work & photography which has now beautifully birthed my business Solstice Birth Photography.
I have a passion for capturing the sheer raw strength and beauty of women bringing their baby earthside. My goal is to peacefully capture moments from your birth for you to look back on and pass down to your children. More recently I have broadened my photography horizon and now do maternity and family photoshoots as well.
From belly kicks to their first cry-I capture the magic that builds your family.
Maternity. Birth. Family.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Howdy! I’ve been a mother for 6 years now. After giving birth to my first I knew I wanted to be a birth worker and help support mothers birthing. I quickly got certified as a full spectrum birth doula. After attending births I realized I wasn’t quite the hands on doula I wished I was BUT I knew I wanted to be at births. I was frustrated feeling like I wasn’t living up to my birth worker potential.
My in-laws gifted me my first camera as I just wanted to take all the photos of my precious kids. One day in April of 2025 I was outside with my kids and it just clicked…what if I did birth photography?! My best friend is also a birth doula and I asked her if she had any clients that would be interested in free birth photography. I quickly found myself at 2 births within 3 weeks and knew this was where I was exactly meant to be…BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY!
I’ve been challenging myself to broaden my horizon and now accepting maternity and family photoshoots!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This one was a hard one for me to swallow, but I had to continue to put myself out there and offer my services for free in order to build up my portfolio. In this industry a large beautiful portfolio is KEY and the only way to do that at first is doing planned shoots for free to get comfortable with your camera and settings. So after months of doing all my shoots for free and posting them all on my website and socials, I started getting emails asking what my prices were! Word of mouth in this industry is so important!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
As a proud person of color I take so much pride in my heritage and the steps I’ve taken to get to where I am. Offering big discounts to families of color in my community is something I vow to always offer. The photography industry is a very expensive one and it’s something my family hasn’t been able to afford so offering discounts to POC in my communities is very important.
