We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miranda Calatrello a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Miranda Calatrello, owner of Maven Marketing & Co, a boutique social media marketing agency based in Louisville, Kentucky. What started as a side hobby creating content for local businesses has grown into a full-scale marketing agency serving 30+ clients across the hospitality, lifestyle, real estate, and wellness industries. Over the past five years, we’ve built a team of talented women who share a passion for storytelling, community, and helping brands grow through genuine connection.
I got my start in marketing almost by accident. I’ve always loved storytelling and design, and early in my career, I saw how many small businesses struggled to translate their in-person experience into a digital one. I began helping a few local clients part-time, writing captions, building brand voices, and developing social strategies that actually felt human. What began as a creative outlet turned into a calling. Today, that same passion drives everything we do at Maven.
Our services include social media management, email marketing, content creation, paid ad strategy, and brand storytelling. But at our core, what we really do is help brands find their voice and use it to connect meaningfully with their audience. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter templates or trendy gimmicks. Every client’s story is different, and we take the time to understand what makes them special before crafting a strategy that reflects that.
What sets Maven apart is our commitment to integrity, creativity, and connection. We lead with strategy but never lose sight of heart. Our clients trust us not only to manage their brand, but to care about it as much as they do. I’m incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built: a team of women balancing talent and compassion, raising families, and lifting each other up while doing work that matters.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about Maven Marketing & Co, it’s that we’re not just managing your social presence, we’re becoming a partner in your growth. We believe in long-term relationships, storytelling that resonates, and marketing that moves people.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has always been word of mouth and genuine relationships. From the very beginning, Maven Marketing & Co. has grown organically through referrals, happy clients sharing their experience with others. We’ve been fortunate to work with brands that believe in us enough to recommend us to their peers, and that kind of trust is something I don’t take lightly.
We’ve also built strong referral incentives and networking into our strategy, but what really makes the difference is connection. I invest a lot of time in getting to know people — whether it’s through local events, collaborations, or simply supporting other small business owners. When people see the way we show up for our clients and community, the growth follows naturally.
Our best marketing tool has always been the results we deliver and the relationships we nurture. That’s the kind of growth that feels authentic and sustainable and it’s what continues to fuel Maven’s success today.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was thinking I had to do everything myself for it to be done right. When I first started Maven Marketing & Co., I wore every hat, from strategy and copywriting to client communication and invoicing. It was my name on the door, and I felt a deep responsibility to make sure every detail was perfect. But over time, I realized that mindset was actually holding me and my team back.
The turning point came when I started hiring talented women who were just as passionate and capable as I was. Learning to delegate, trust, and empower others completely changed my business. It allowed me to focus on leadership, growth, and vision instead of being buried in the day-to-day.
Unlearning that need for control taught me one of the most important truths of entrepreneurship: you build stronger, more sustainable success when you create space for others to shine.
