Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Miranda Bonton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Miranda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I have taken was starting my own business. It was tough for me because I grew up in an era where you went to college, got a good job and you worked there until you retired. Owning my own business was nowhere in the plan. The thought of it never crossed my mind because it wasn’t talked about in school. I then came across my husband and his family that are full of entrepreneurs. They encouraged me to try it especially since I was very good at the work I did in my field. In 2017 I took a leap of faith and started my own business MB Financial Consulting Services. It has truly been the best decision I’ve made as I’ve been able to make an impact across multiple businesses in the United States.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Miranda Bonton and I am the Founder & CEO of MB Financial Consulting Services. Growing up my family didn’t have much because they struggled financially and were unaware of how to manage their finances. This created the desire in me to change that trajectory for my life which led me to study finance and accounting in college. From there I was able to work with fortune 500 companies and ultimately I became the CFO of a charter school where I managed $12-$14 million in revenue while managing the finance, accounting, information technology, and Human resources departments. During this time other businesses and organizations saw what I did and wanted my services. This, along with the support of my family, led me to branch out and start my own business and bring a holistic approach to managing businesses.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Having the right experience and completing my work with fidelity has been key to building my reputation in the market. When you have the right experience for the job and people can trust what you say and what you do it opens up tons of opportunities. That’s actually how my business took flight. Other business owners or CEOs mentioned my work ethic and my knowledge base to their colleagues which led to multiple opportunities for MB Financial Consulting Services.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first went to college I didn’t have the knowledge of how financial aid worked and how tuition and fees were charged. In high school I graduated in the top 10% of my class which allowed you to get into any school in Texas. At the time, in my naïve mind, I thought this meant that my tuition and fees were fully covered as well. After my first week in school I was in for a rude awakening as I realized that it only granted me admission to get in but it didn’t cover any of the cost to attend. No one in my family had credit to get loans and at the time my credit wasn’t established enough for me to get any loans as well so at the end of the semester I almost had to drop out unless I could come up with the additional funding that was missing. At that moment I was presented with options to quit but my determination to finish outweighed it. I was able to find the funding to go back to school and in that following semester I picked up two jobs to make sure I was never placed in that position again.
