We were lucky to catch up with Miraie recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miraie , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents have always been supportive of me no matter what I do. Ever since I’m a kid, my dad would buy a game console for me and play together. Right now I’m grown up, and both my dad & mom still play games with me! I think my parents really care and make sure that I’m happy all the time, which I’ll forever be grateful. In essence, my parents’ simple yet profound acts have not only fostered joy and connection but have also impacted my approach to life and career decisions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Miraie, and I am a content creator who uploads a variety of content on YouTube such as Japan VLOG & video games content, yet also am known for being a music artist on Spotify & many other platforms. Born in 2000 on November 22, I hated how life is full of options yet not a clear one ever since I was young. As an Asian surrounded by so-called “typical Asian” aunts & uncles, adults often tell us we should study hard and become doctors, engineers, or lawyers to make big money, and live a rich life. However, no matter how much effort I put into studying, I could not find myself becoming any of those people. In the year 2014, I started uploading all kinds of content using my iPad camera, which gathered little to no views on YouTube. However, when I started uploading osu! videos (rhythm game) in 2016, I started getting more exposure and views. That’s when I fully committed myself to making videos while balancing my high school life. Year 2018, I moved to Japan to further my studies, which I also decided to start recording my life in Japan and sharing it on YouTube, which also gained quite a lot of attention from people. Year 2020, COVID-19 hit the world out of nowhere, and I was forced to go back home by my parents, I lost my ability to make any more Japan VLOG, but that was when I started singing into the microphone. Slowly and slowly, I transitioned into a music artist as I saw my stats grow on Spotify and many other music platforms. And that is the history of how I became who I am today!
My proudest song would be “fantasy world” as it is loved by many people and easy to get into compared to my other works. However, if you are not a fan of vocals and hyperpop, perhaps you can give my song “last day with my girlfriend” a listen, as it uses more organic instrumentals such as piano, strings, violin, bells, bass guitar, flute to produce with no vocals.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the joy of bringing a smile to someone’s face and the profound impact on people’s lives. Hearing stories of how my work has positively changed someone motivates me to keep going, even when numbers fluctuate. Not only that, being able to connect with a diverse global audience and the excitement of meeting fans in real life really add an extra layer of fulfillment to me. These are just a few reasons I can think of right now, but I really appreciate what I do and how my fans are always supporting me no matter what I do.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
While I don’t typically delve into traditional books, there are a few mangas (Japanese Comics) that stand out has significantly impacted my thinking and philosophy. Works like ‘Goodnight Punpun,’ ‘The Flowers of Evil,’ ‘Monsters,’ and ‘Homunculus’ have not only changed my approach to life but also influenced my entrepreneurial mindset. These narratives offer unique perspectives that go beyond conventional literature, and I encourage others to explore them for their thought-provoking content.
