We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miracle Pelayo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
MIRACLE , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I pursued acting because I felt like performing for me was the greatest outlet I could ever have. I have dreamt of being an actor since I was a little girl and I just felt it in my heart it was something I had to do for the rest of my life. In grade school, when we would read the question WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP… It was always the same answer for me: I “want to be an actor and performer.” I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
MIRACLE , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I want to show people with disabilities that we all have talents and gifts to share with the world. I got in the industry because I felt God calling me to be a voice for others who wanted to pursue the same passion. Apart from acting, I am also a fashion content creator in “Making Cerebral Palsy Beautiful” to show young girls in wheelchairs how to be more confident. My name is Miracle Pelayo and I have Cerebral Palsy. I am an actor, model, and fashion content creator. I am passionate about Disability Representation in the media.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I went viral on Instagram using the song “PRETTY GIRLS WALK LIKE THIS” while showing off an OOTD, and it was just me using my Walker wearing Guess sweatshirt and using my walker. I didn’t see anyone with a disability using that audio, and it hit 30k views! My audience grew from that, and it helped me get my message out there that young girls in their wheelchairs can show off their fashionista style by using their wheelchairs or their walkers.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me as an artist is that it’s not about the folllowers or the likes but how many hearts are being opened and changed with how I am making an impact on the disabled community. I dreamt of being a voice my whole life and knowing that I am inspiring others makes it all worth it
