We were lucky to catch up with Miracle Aaliyah recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Miracle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?

I manage my own social media. I just found it easier to do it myself and I like being creative & able to choose how I want to market myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I always loved doing hair and making people feel good about themselves. I started in high school when I took cosmetology & I was doing events like prom, homecoming, etc. Down the line I figured I should take it seriously and went to school for my license and started my business (Looks By Miracle). School was the hardest part for me because it required a lot of discipline but it was worth it in the end because it taught me how to be more social with promoting myself and now I can do what I love as a career. I offer braids, natural hair, extensions, and color services.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I started a professional business page & learned how to market myself in order to gain more clientele/supporters. I would make content & use hashtags to help people find me on the explore page and overtime I just built an audience for myself, My advice would be don’t be afraid to post content. POST POST POST! It can be a 10 second video of you parting hair or doing what your craft is and it can get you 100+ followers. Also, never doubt yourself… it’s lots of people doing the same career out here but there’s only one you & that makes you unique and sets you apart from the rest .

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Word of mouth surprisingly. I always thought social media was the only way to go but someone sharing your name with someone can get you known way faster.
