We were lucky to catch up with Mira Chotalia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mira, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
The defining moment in my career was back in March of 2020, right before the pandemic began. I had recently moved to NYC with my husband and started looking for jobs about 6 months before March. I knew I wanted to work in the health & wellness space, but I wanted a role where I could wear many hats and be challenged daily. I had already worked in management consulting, user experience design, and marketing, but I was not feeling challenged by my role or fulfilled by the mission of the companies I worked at.
So I worked with a career coach to figure out what the best role would be for me based on my experience and my interests. I landed on product management at a health and wellness company. I started reaching out to every health and wellness company in NYC, emailing recruiters, LinkedIn messaging & networking as much as possible. I finally found traction after I revamped my LinkedIn profile and had companies reaching out to me! I finally felt like something was working!!
A recruiter from Equinox reached out to me about a PM role expanding their app presence. I looked into the role and it was everything I wanted – a 6 figure salary, a job in the heart of NYC, great wellness perks, and a chance to make a difference in people’s health! I did the initial phone screen and it went well. So they scheduled me for the in-person interview. The interview was quite daunting. I arrived at the giant building in NYC, took the elevators up, and walked into the office. I was scheduled to meet with many different team members and had 5 interviews that day. I was nervous, but after I started the interviews, I eased up and was having a great time getting to know the team!
I left the interview feeling good, but was unsure whether I would get the job or not. Within 30 minutes, I got a phone call from the recruiter telling me that I got the job and the team was very impressed by me. He said they are offering me the job and I accepted. He told me that in a couple of days, he will send over the offer for me to sign.
A week had gone by and I hadn’t heard back, so I reached out to the recruiter and he told me hes working on it and not to worry. But then, a couple days later, he asked to get on a call with me. I had a feeling it was bad news. I got on the phone with him and he shared with me that the VP had not approved this role or budget, and that they are revoking my offer. He apologized and my heart sank.
I got off the phone and was in disbelief of what had just happened. How did this large of a company have this big of a blunder? Why is this happening to me? I already said no to other offers, so do I need to start from square 1 again? I felt hopeless for about a week, and thats when the pandemic hit.
I remember thinking to myself how am I going to find a job now?! Also, my job probably would have been revoked due to the pandemic anyway, so I guess its better that I found out before I started. I looked for jobs for about 2 weeks and it was quite literally a disaster. I would find out they didnt have the budget anymore, the role wasn’t available, the company is in a hiring freeze, or that they need to cut people from their teams. I had pretty much lost all hope in the job market.
That’s when I had this glimmer of an idea. I knew I always wanted to start my own business, so I asked myself…is this the moment? And that was it! I decided to start Mira Method in April 2020 to help people with their health and wellness. I have never looked back since besides the quarterly freak out of should I get a job and frantically looking at 30 job descriptions.
I learned that things in life may come at a time you never expected, but its the decision that you make in that moment that is the most important. I truly feel that my experience was a blessing in disguise that led me to where I am today. The universe only throws things at you that you can handle.

Mira, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Mira, a health and wellness expert, coach, & keynote speaker. As the CEO of Mira Method, I help those who are deeply interested in improving their health and wellness, want to reduce stress & burnout, and live a life that is truly balanced! I have a background in behavioral psychology, user experience design, business management, trigger point therapy, and functional nutrition & health. I’ve helped over 300 clients reach their health and wellness goals through personal, group coaching, and detox programs.
Since I was young, I’ve been passionate about improving the health and wellness of myself and those around me. I went through many personal physical and mental health issues. I also went to countless doctors, specialists, and wellness practitioners and no one could connect those dots for me! Not once did I see anyone connect mental health + physical health + gut health in one place. I created The Mira Method – an integrative approach that harmonizes modern science and ancient healing in order to identify the root cause.
My mission is to create a movement where we normalize self-care before health care, where we combine ancient healing and modern science, where we are abundant & joyful from every inch of our bodies, and where we have complete alignment between mind, body, and energy!
At Mira Method, we help proactive, committed, and open minded individuals who want to explore a life beyond their symptoms, and are willing to put in the short term work for long term wellness. Mira Method is the health & wellness brand that provides a personalized ecosystem for your health journey, real answers and solutions for what you see on the surface, a clear action plan, and a supportive community, because building a thriving & healthy life shouldn’t be that complicated!
No more band-aids.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I started my business, I had no idea I wanted to be a health & wellness coach. I had this vision of wanting to make preventative health the norm to end the feeling of hopelessness. I decided that I needed to become a leader in health and wellness first to spread the movement. That is what led me to become a health coach and then eventually I would be doing wellness retreats, and creating wellness centers around the world.
So step 1 was to tell people I am a health coach and get clients to help them on their health journey! I started up my Instagram page called the Mira Method and told my friends and family to share my page. I reached out to all my followers to try to secure my first clients. After 2 months of DMing people every day, sharing to about 60 followers, and constantly feeling like this is going nowhere, I got my first 3 clients which turned into 100 that first year.
After that, the pandemic was in full force, and I wanted to reach more people, so I had the idea to create a virtual wellness retreat where I partner with other wellness professionals and create an entire day of wellness for my clients! I reached out to a yoga instructor, a meditation guru, a chef, and also secured a very important speaker for the event, and had everything set. I was marketing daily, and also had them market the retreat as well. I also told all my family & friends, sent emails, marketed on other platforms, and DM’ed almost all my followers. It was one week away and I literally had zero sales. I felt so defeated and kept thinking to myself, how will I pay the staff, what will everyone think of me, why did I set this up before vetting the idea, am I a failure, why isn’t anyone signing up, is something wrong with me…a thought like this would flood my mind all day long.
I decided there is no harm in regrouping, taking a look at what is creating any sort of engagement and focusing all my energy on that. I leaned into the 80/20 rule fully, and only did the 20% of things that were generating results. 3 days before the retreat, I got 4 sales. 2 days before I got 2 sales. 1 day before I got 4 more sales. I COULDN’T BELIEVE WHAT JUST HAPPENED!! Even writing this story now gives me the chills.
I learned that the results will come when there is focus and consistency. When I focused on being resilient, not letting all my fears stop my action, and showing up for myself everyday. It made all the difference. I also learned that doing less is more. I regrouped, took a couple days to relax and reflect, I focused on the 20%, and I also allowed myself see beyond the result.
We cannot control the result. The only thing we can control is our actions.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I grew my clients and business mostly through Instagram! The most effective strategy for me has been 1:1 connection with my followers and being as authentic as possible. I am going to give a breakdown of my client growth + sales strategy below:
STEP 1: I market a free call with me on my IG stories or in a grid post. The link to book a call is in my link in bio as well.
STEP 2: I create a poll on IG stories to ask who is interested in the free call.
STEP 3: I reach out to all the people who vote via DM to introduce myself and share a couple times to book a call.
STEP 4: After they confirm a time, I send them a calendar invite or they book a 30-min call with me. On the call, I ask them what their main concerns are, and understand their issue a bit further. At this point, I will get an understanding if I can help them or not. If I can, I got to step 6. If I can’t, I thank them for their time and offer alternative recommendations that could be helpful to them.
STEP 5: I then explain how I work & what my philosophy is which usually takes about 2-3 minutes.
STEP 6: I ask them if they have any questions before I give my recommendation.
STEP 7: I recommend ONLY ONE offer to them that I think is a good fit and tell them the info & pricing.
STEP 8: I ask if it is in their budget. If it’s not, I offer them a lower offer or a discount if I have one. If it is, I send them the link to buy on the call.
STEP 9: I walk them through the sign up page and they purchase the offer.
STEP 10: I give them a confirmation that their sign up went through and I got an email.
STEP 11: I give them next steps on what will happen after they get off the call and that’s it.
