We recently connected with Mir Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Mir, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I was once told that “If you have a dream and you don’t act on it, it’s just a fantasy.” My biggest risk in life so far was definitely taking a leap of faith moving to LA in the beginning of 2020 (pre-pandemic). It was an interesting time and experience to go through “surviving” in a new city in the state that the world was in at the time but I knew LA was where I need to be at the time so I had to stick it out and because of that I’ve been prospering throughout the years
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey! :) My name is Mir Johnson, I’m a versatile creative artist born in South West Philadelphia. I always was a creative kid, doing talent shows, drawing, singing, anything creative or artistic I always gravitated towards naturally. I want to Philadelphia Creative and Performing Arts High School in South Philadelphia where I was an acting major and a dance minor. I got inspired to pursue a professional dance career at 19years old, a little bit over a year after graduating highschool. Since then I’ve moved to Los Angeles where I’ve been training and pursuing one of my artistic dreams of being a professional dancer. The consistency, hard work, and discipline it takes to become one of the best and working dancers is one of the darkest battles I’ve had to out myself through. Especially when I personally was never the BEST dancer in the room by far, when I first started. I’ve always been talented but I also feel like my passion and consistency is one of the things that keeps me getting better and reaching new heights and evolving myself as a person and an artist. Same thing with painting, the consistency is what makes it so easy now, I live, eat, and breath creativity. I’m all about love and positivity, my art and my name will be a household name soon. I promise.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, honestly I’m still taking it day by day because there’s so many ideas and plans I want to do. I don’t want to limit myself because I honestly, feel like I can do literally ANY and EVERYTHING I want, and I can as long as I put my mind to it, I want to be a dancer, actor, designer, creative director, but at the same time I could see myself as a CEO, millionaire, business owner, land owner, activist, there’s so much in the world I want to do and I plan on accomplishing it all. I’m not sure 100% what the future holds but I want to have my hands in everybody basket. They say “Don’t put all your eggs into one basket” but I plan on having my eggs in every basket, maybe not all at the same time., but all the goals I have, will be reached, to their highest level..
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Not necessarily a “lesson” that I had to unlearn, but just transitioning from a kid to adult I’ve learning that a majority of peoples opinions don’t matter, especially the negative ones. I feel like this day and age of social media really messes with our brain and allowed too many opinions and distractions to knock us off of our goals and our purpose. I don’t necessarily have a lot of negative things in my life or negativity coming towards me but I feel like even when I do, it won’t bother me because I’m always going to respond with love and I tell my friends all the time, “Peoples opinions only have the amount of value you give it, if you don’t value their opinion, their opinion shouldn’t matter.” I’m such a focused and to myself type of person, that anything else that isn’t impacting my life for the better, it’s really easy for me to block out unnecessary things moreso than alot of people. Which I honestly am glad I can do lol there’s too many negative things in the world, I definitely try to keep it away from my life at least.
