We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Minye Cho. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Minye below.
Minye, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Unexpected challenges are a given in the production and creative world.
One unforgettable moment happened in New York, during a shoot in a 100+ year-old building. We needed hot water for a shower scene, and the art team had planned ahead with a portable heater. But on the day of the shoot, the heater was accidentally left behind. Suddenly, it turned into a classic production problem, one we had to solve on the spot. I both hate and love this feeling- it’s stressful, but there’s nothing quite like the rush of finding a solution under pressure haha.
To make matters worse, a massive parade was happening right outside.
Lunch was delayed by an hour, trucks were stuck in traffic, and we were completely trapped at the location. The pressure was mounting as time ticked away.
I ended up reaching out to the property owner, who luckily lived nearby. Instead of shrugging us off, they sprang into action and drove to a Home Depot close to the location. Of course, navigating NYC traffic and coming in and out of the chaos took a quite amount of time. But miraculously, they returned with a boiler! By 12:30 AM, it was installed, and we started filming the scene by 1 AM.
In moments like these, I truly thank God for guiding us, looking out for us, and sending the right people to help solve the problem together. It’s a reminder of how teamwork and faith can turn chaos into success.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello world! I’m Minye Cho, and since 2022, I’ve been producing at Ambience LA. Founded by our CEO, Downy Jung, in 2017, Ambience creates commercials, music videos, and other cool stuff for clients all over the world.
One of our recent projects was a commercial for La Mer, and we’ve also worked on tons of K-pop music videos.
We’ve also got this awesome project called “Play Your Bubble.” It’s DJ and live session content that’s been gaining traction in Korea and LA! We’ve been featuring over 30 DJs and R&B live sessions here in LA.
Currently, Ambience LA is working on a SAG short film titled “Threadbeat Dad,” directed by Crystal Jin Kim, with cinematography by Jin Kim. This project is presented by the Atlanta Film Festival, where it will be screened, and we hope to develop it into a feature film in the future.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of my work is collaborating closely with my crew on set. Every decision we make affects each department, creating a harmonious environment where everyone’s contributions are interconnected. Seeing this teamwork in action is truly fulfilling, as it showcases our collective effort and dedication. It’s inspiring to watch our combined talents bring a project to life, reflecting the essence of collaborative filmmaking.
I truly believe that filmmaking is a language. It allows us to communicate complex ideas and emotions without words, transcending linguistic barriers.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Downy and I often talk about creating a happy set—a place where our team, family, and supporters work together smoothly. While this ideal is challenging to achieve, our goal is to foster a positive atmosphere that enhances creativity and well-being for everyone involved. We believe such an environment leads to more authentic storytelling and strengthens our collaborative spirit. And, of course, great coffee is essential to keep the energy high!
