We were lucky to catch up with Minu Cash recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Minu, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
At age 45 I uncovered a family secret that turned my life upside down. From then on, I knew I had a story to tell. That’s when I started the journey of bringing my life story to paper. In June 2024, I launched my memoir, The Painted Pink Dress.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
From my earliest memories, I battled with an unsettling sense of otherness at home. It wasn’t just my peculiar name, but also my light skin and cinnamon-swirl hair—so unlike the dark features of my Mexican family—that drew comments from neighbors and strangers.
No one answered my probing questions, leaving me yearning for answers. As if that weren’t enough, I had to endure my father’s violence, my mother’s negligence, and the poverty and drugs of Cashion, Arizona.
Determined to carve out my own destiny, I embarked on a journey to uncover the mysteries of my past. After years of lies and mistreatment, I finally found the strength to confront the one person who knew the truth—the one person who could give me the peace I so desperately longed for.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My book, The Painted Pink Dress, illustrates several stories of resilience. One in particular is an incident where I was left in Mexico alone at thirteen. I had to find my way back home on my own.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I decided to write the memoir I pivoted from all other priorities in my life at the time. Putting my story on paper was one of my biggest endeavors in life.
