Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Minister Slugger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Minister Slugger , thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
There was a moment in my life when I had to make a decision that completely altered the course of my journey. You see, I come from a background that many might not expect. I come from a music background, being a music producer to be exact. When I graduated high school music became my career choice and that’s how I made money. But also, I dabbled in the streets and hustling was another source of income. For years, I lived a life that was about survival, making decisions that were fueled by selfish ambition, and the pursuit of quick gains. But deep down, I knew that wasn’t my purpose. God had something bigger for me.
The risk I took wasn’t just about leaving the streets, it was about stepping into the unknown—into a calling I couldn’t fully comprehend at the time. I decided to turn away from a life that provided for me in the only way I knew, and I embraced the uncertainty of what God was calling me to. I didn’t have all the answers; I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. But I knew that in order to step into my divine purpose, I had to let go of the life I once knew. That decision was a leap of faith, not just for me, but for my family too.
And let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt, fear, and wondering if I had made the right choice. But what I’ve learned is that risk, when anchored in faith, is never in vain. That risk opened doors for me to become a minister, to speak life into others, and to share my testimony. God turned my past into my platform, and what seemed like the greatest risk has become the foundation for the life I live today—a life rooted in purpose, in service, and in giving others hope.
Taking that risk showed me that when you’re walking in God’s will, even the biggest leap into the unknown is always met with His grace and provision. And now, I get to live in the overflow of that risk every single day.
After I answered the call to ministry, the risks didn’t stop there. The next big leap came when I decided to start a videography and photography business in 2005. With just a $500 investment from my wife, I took that small seed and planted it into what I believed could become something bigger. I remember the moment clearly—$500 might not seem like much, but when you’re starting with nothing but a vision and faith, it felt monumental. It was a test, not just of my ability to create a business, but of my faith in God’s provision.
That initial $500 turned into a $5,000 contract within a few months. I could have never imagined that such a small investment would multiply like that so quickly. And that’s how God works—He takes what seems small and insignificant in the world’s eyes and turns it into something beyond what we could ask or think. But I didn’t stop there. That first contract was the beginning of what became a thriving business of contracting my media services. Every step forward was fueled by the belief that God had His hand on my efforts.
However, it wasn’t an easy journey. You see, when you step outside of the box, there are always people who don’t understand. Some of my family didn’t get why I would step into entrepreneurship, especially when I was already in ministry. The criticism was real—questions about whether I could provide for my family and doubts about whether this was the “right” thing to do. But I’ve learned that when God calls you to something, it’s not for everyone to understand. The faith it took to not just start the business but to keep going in the face of doubt was something I had to rely on daily. I had to shut out the noise and focus on what I knew God had placed in my heart even amid a financial drought.
I believe faith isn’t just about stepping into ministry; it’s about how you carry that faith into every aspect of your life, including business. Being an entrepreneur wasn’t just a career choice for me, it was an extension of the ministry. Through that business, I’ve had the opportunity to meet people, build relationships, and spread the message of hope through the lens of creativity. I’ve watched God take what started as a small, criticized endeavor and turn it into a lasting testimony of His faithfulness. Every contract, every project, and every relationship formed was a result of walking by faith and not by sight.
Minister Slugger , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What sets me apart is that this business isn’t just about making a living—it’s about ministry in motion. Every time I pick up a camera, I’m reminded that God can take the smallest seeds and multiply them beyond what we can imagine. My approach is deeply personal. I don’t just aim to meet my client’s needs; I aim to exceed them by delivering quality work that resonates on a deeper level. Whether it’s the celebration of a union, a corporate event, or a creative project, I bring both technical skill and a heart of service to everything I do.
One thing I’m incredibly proud of is how this business has grown despite the challenges and criticisms that came along the way. It started with a small investment, but over time, it blossomed into something much larger than I anticipated. I’m proud of the relationships I’ve built with clients, the trust they’ve placed in me, and the work I’ve been able to deliver that reflects both their vision and my passion for storytelling.
The main thing I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that everything I do is rooted in faith and purpose. My brand isn’t just about the services I provide; it’s about the message I carry. Whether it’s through my photography and videography, my speaking engagements, or my writing, the goal is always the same—to uplift, inspire, and point people toward hope. When you work with me, you’re not just getting a product; you’re getting a partnership built on trust, excellence, and the belief that anything is possible when faith is at the center.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative for me is the ability to bring vision to life—both mine and that of others. It’s knowing that through the gifts God has given me, I get to tell stories, capture moments, and create something that resonates far beyond the present. Every time I step behind the camera or pick up the pen, I’m reminded that this isn’t just about creativity—it’s about ministry, service, and impact.
For me, the true reward lies in seeing the way my work touches others. Whether it’s a photograph that captures the essence of a couple’s love or a video that tells the story of someone’s life journey, the power of creation allows me to connect with people on a deeper level. I’m not just delivering a product; I’m delivering a message of hope, purpose, and possibility.
What makes it even more fulfilling is that every creative project is an opportunity to reflect the goodness of God. When I see someone moved by what I’ve created, whether it’s a client or an audience member, I know that it’s not just me—they’re experiencing something greater, something spiritual that flows through the work I do. That’s the most rewarding part for me—knowing that what I create has the power to inspire, uplift, and remind people of their own God-given potential.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media didn’t happen overnight for me—it’s been a journey rooted in authenticity, consistency, and a whole lot of faith. When I first started, I wasn’t focused on the numbers; I was focused on the message. I knew that if I shared what God placed on my heart and stayed true to my purpose, the right people would be drawn to it. I began sharing pieces of my story, both the struggles and the triumphs, because I believe transparency is what connects us as human beings. Whether it was a post about my entrepreneurial journey or a motivational message rooted in my faith, I made sure everything I shared had value—something that could uplift, inspire, or guide someone else.
It wasn’t always easy, and there were times when I wondered if my efforts were making an impact. But I stayed the course. One of the keys was engaging with my audience in a real way—not just posting content and walking away but having conversations, answering questions, and building relationships. Social media, for me, has never been about just broadcasting; it’s about community. I treat each follower like someone I’ve been called to serve, not just a number to grow.
For anyone just starting to build their social media presence, my biggest advice is to focus on your “why” before anything else. Why are you doing this? What is the message or the value that you want to bring to people? When you’re clear about your purpose, everything you share will be a reflection of that, and people will feel it. Be consistent—not just in posting but in showing up with integrity. Don’t worry about having the perfect feed or the most followers right away. The right people will come when you’re being true to yourself and your calling.
And lastly, don’t get discouraged by the numbers. Social media growth takes time, but remember, even if you’re impacting one person, you’re making a difference. Keep sharing, keep engaging, and trust that God will elevate your platform in His timing, as long as you remain faithful to the mission He’s placed in your heart.
