We were lucky to catch up with Minister Dawnn Vance recently and have shared our conversation below.
Minister Dawnn , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Throughout my life I have had firsthand experience of systemic oppression and discrimination since my early years. I love in Chattanooga,TN now. Now matter picturesque it seems here. I’m finding that there is an insidious secret. That festers throughout the workplaces of this city. I have dealt with discrimination but mostly prejudice. I literally worked at Medrock Pharmacy and I was fired because the supervising pharmacist said she didnt like the sound of my voice. When I answered the phone! Other times people just don’t like that Im a bit of a rebel. In my eyes Im there to service and do my work. Not people please and be the slave. Here in Chattanooga prejudice and bias in the workplace are pervasive issues that can have detrimental effects on employees, organizational culture, and overall business success. Despite efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, discriminatory attitudes and behaviors still persist in many work environments. I’m committed to promoting equality and social justice. In pursuit of building a brighter future for the multicultural era.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Im A creole american. I advocate for civil rights and social justice, particularly within marginalized communities. Dawnn Vance was born in Greenville, NC and raised in East New Orleans. I grew up witnessing the effects of systemic racism and inequality, which ignited my passion for social justice and advocacy. Majority of ny discipline comes from being born into a military lineage.
I am the founder of The Febe Foundation. It is a notable non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities and resources to underprivileged individuals and communities. Established in 2005. It took me years to build my foundation from the ground up. The foundation has made significant strides in addressing educational disparities and empowering individuals to achieve their full potential. The Febe Foundation was founded with the mission of promoting community development and environmental sustainability. The Febe Foundation is a tool for social change and community development. Named in honor of Phebe Akan. My first slave ancestor, Phebe, strongly believed in the power of unity, the foundation seeks to create a more equitable and inclusive society by breaking down barriers and providing access to quality opportunities for all.
What sets me apart is. I lift up the rug and find dirty little secrets. Then I ask questions and make changes. People do not typically like that. However there is no change if we don’t change what is within ourselves. So when I lift up that rug it causes cities and people to look themselves in the mirror and face the truth. Which makes people feel uncomfortable

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I started out building a reputable brand. I did a lot of free work and volunteering at the age of 15. By the age of 16 I got and EIN. I took a few years to get TIS. By the age of 30. Funding my non-profit was a multifaceted endeavor that required a strategic approach, creativity, and persistence. I diversified revenue streams, mastered grant writing and fundraising, became extremely active in communities. Forged strategic partnerships, measured up impact, and planned for sustainablility. Non-profits can build a strong financial foundation that supports their mission-driven work. To me it is all about rapport. With a commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation, non-profits can attract the support they need to create a lasting positive change in their communities and beyond.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Good business rapport can lead to stronger relationships, increased trust, and expanded opportunities for collaboration and partnership. Similarly, positive press coverage can enhance a company’s reputation, credibility, and visibility in the marketplace. I was able to build trust and credibility Building strong rapport can open the door to collaboration and partnership opportunities.
In addition to building rapport with clients and customers, positive press coverage has significantly impacted my business’s reputation and visibility in the market. Whether it’s through traditional media outlets, social media, or industry publications, getting favorable press has helped my business attract new communities, partnerships, collaborations, enhance brand awareness, and differentiate myself.
