We were lucky to catch up with Minister Billy Logan Jr recently and have shared I’mlur conversation below.
Minister Billy , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was in elementary school. A talent show was hosted at our school. I performed in the talent show, and another individual from my neighborhood. I saw that I had talent, because me and other kids would rap in class making a beat off the desk. Music and movies was something that I was drawn to. The music was therapy, something exciting and new. From 19 to my early and late 20s I was in the studio. The studio was my own home studio. I used Protools 8. I was into writing at an early age poetry poems and stories, that I would come up with. When I saw actors like Denzel Washington Alpacino Samuel L Jackson Tupac Shakur. That was inspiration and motivation for me, to want to make a Living. James Earl Ray came from Arkabulta Mr. Ray is one of the best actors to be shown on the screen. I believe he is underrated. But to see him come from a small place in the country, and make it. I know the sky is the limit for me. I am from Coldwater Ms. Coldwater to Arkabutla is about eleven minutes away. Coldwater has a few small stores and good people. There everyone is a cousin in someway, and everyone knows each other.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Billy Logan Jr. I am a Minister of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church A Christian under the leadership of Dr.Frank Ray Sr. I am 37 years old. I’m married to my wife Beatrice Logan. I grew up in Coldwater Ms. My Grandmother Gertrude Logan Grandad M.V Logan and Stella Logan raised me. My dad is Billy Logan Sr. I left Mississippi around 2006. I moved to MemphisTN. In MemphisTN there I resided and worked, for better opportunities. I got started with my craft, just by being exposed to different environments. My mother likes blues my Grandmother was a Faithful Christian woman. My Grandmother was committed to Jesus Christ. She took me my brother and cousins, to Church every Sunday. I think when I invested, in myself and challenged myself, that’s when I knew that I had a gift. I’m proud that despite me not making it commercial in the music industry, I have a history of Golden treasures from my experiences and memories. The Word of God tells us that we can make plans, in our life but his plan will prevail through them all. What sets me apart. I’m Honest I’m Loyal and I have integrity , and I’m a hardworker. The difference between me and the next person is I’m always the same. In Life people are always not the same . Today they might be glad for you, and Tommorrow they will be hoping that you fail. What I want people to know about me is, I hope that if I meet you. That I am able to give you Wisdom and Knowledge, that can help you on your path. If it’s Creative Arts advice on how to navigate, through life if things don’t go how you expected. Solomon in the Bible asked for Wisdom. God not only gave him Wisdom, but increased him in all areas of his Life. My Mission is to follow where God would have me to go. My works that I have talked about, two projects I have entered into competition. A book that I wrote I entered into the book adaptation contest., through BookPipeline. A Screenplay I entered it into the Script Competition Contest, through Austin Film Festival. In the Austin Film Festival contest, my screenplay did not win. The lesson that I learned is not to give up. I want to advise you to not give up on your dreams. Whatever your dreams is work at it, that it may become a reality. Martin Luther King Jr had a dream and look what he was able to Accomplish in his life. Times might get hard and the storms and seas that we find ourselves in can be unpredictable, but we must keep moving forward. My Facebook is Billy Logan Jr. Youtube Minister Billy Logan Jr.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I came from a area of Poverty and not many resources. Poverty because I stayed in two places of residence. I stayed with my mom. When I stayed with my mom we lived in a small shack. A very small place when I would walk to the kitchen and go to the sink. I could see the ground from outside. When we have to go to the bathroom we had to boil our water on the stove, to take a bath in the bucket. Roaches where always running everywhere like it was there home. In there mind I guess it was. Despite the circumstances we stayed strong and we had Love. Love was the positive blanket, that covered the inadequacy. Mom didn’t have a car, and before I started working we had to walk everywhere. Rain or Sunshine we had to go and get groceries for the house. I remember on many occasions when we walk to and from the stores. People that knew us from the neighborhood, would see us walking with bags, and keep passing by. They would there hands and say hello, and blow the horn but they would not stop. When I left school to to pursue my Ged. I was listed in a workforce program. My first paycheck I was determined to get some transportation. I got a car from that day on I have made sure, that we have a way to get around. I am thankful for God keeping us and him letting me know, that my struggles are not in vain. In due season we shall reap rewards if we faint not.
