Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ming Ley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ming, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I am a long time serial entrepreneur. I have always thought I would have been way further if I would have started when I realized my talent. I have what they call, “a gazillion ideas.” However I was the type to give up too easily until I really started to realize that you will never be what you want until you apply the PRESSURE. I started out in corporate America, I thought it was the great way to go but it isn’t for everyone. I’ve worked for corporate America for over 10 years and it was never settling. That is when I knew I needed to go for what I wanted… and that was being an entrepreneur. Then I started Luxe Pout. I would have done a MILLION things way sooner, I would be so much more ahead. In despite, I am still doing the things that I dreamed of.
Ming, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Ming Ley, founder of Luxe Pout Cosmetics. I started off as a self taught makeup artist at the age of 16. Makeup and art have always been my passion however growing up I always thought corporate America was the way to go in order to succeed. It wasn’t my passion, the beauty industry was. Throughout the years I worked multiple jobs in the corporate field not feeling fully satisfied. My passion for beauty was kind of put on the back burner. I did makeup for clients from time to time and also worked on a beauty blog every now and then. When I was doing those things, I was at my happiest. Fast forward to 2020 and COVID, I was laid off and then was offered a position shortly after at one of the largest companies in the world. It was a great opportunity and I took it. I worked there for 3 weeks still feeling that feeling of emptiness. From there I knew I had to come up with a plan. During the pandemic I launched my very own cosmetics business, Luxe Pout Cosmetics, LLC!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to create your own lane. You truly don’t have to worry about anyone but you! That’s the beauty of it. You get to learn from your mistakes and progress.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
The struggle about the journey is actually figuring out the journey. A lot of people make it seem/sound easy but it’s not. We all struggle with finding out our purpose and what we are supposed to be doing… It is frustrating and sometimes we can’t figure it out. Being a creative is hard because a lot of people have so many talents that we just have to pick… Just like the lottery, it’s hard to pick that winning number.
