We recently connected with Minely Carmona and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Minely thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
For most of my life I pretty much kept my interest in the occult and cartomancy to myself. Cartomancy was just a hobby, something used for fun. 2013 was the year I decided I wanted to read cards for others as well. I would read them here and there for friends and family. Making money for it was not even a thought in my mind at the time. In 2019 I made an ig page and starting offering tarot readings by donation just to practice before doing them in person. The people I was doing readings for were strangers but they were grateful for my guidance and kept offering to pay. Even though tarot reading is one of my greatest passions, it can be draining like anything else that is done repetitively. I had to think of my time, energy, and spiritual hygiene so I finally set prices.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’ve always had a passion for journeying into the depths of the human psyche and spirit. No amount of knowledge is ever enough for me. I believe my gift of tarot reading comes from some of my ancestors in my lineage. I always knew I would master the craft. My brand is a creative expression of who I am, who I come from, and what I love. It’s relatable to magically empowered women, the brujxs, and even girls who are still trying to figure out what they believe in and who they are through those beliefs. PinkMoonMexicana reflects being mystical and Mexican/Mexican-American. If you know about our culture then you’ll know a little bit about our magic. Everything we sell is meaningful. Our witchy accessories and tools are carefully made and chosen to have spiritual meaning and to remind our customers that they are made of magic.

Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Even though pink is in the brand name and logo, initially our aesthetic was black/dark. I thought it made more sense since we attract brujxs. I saw how amazing pink looked for other businesses but thought it wouldn’t do well with mine. Finally, I decided to try it out. We noticed that we were getting a lot more followers and compliments from our customers at events and online. The pink really speaks to our community. Taking the risk to make everything pink has definitely paid off. I feel that it was always meant to be this way.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When we started doing markets, we tried to do as many as we could. We did get exposure but we weren’t reaching our ideal clientele and audience. I had to become a lot pickier about the events and markets we participated in because there were some that were not paying off. Our customers are unique and magical and you won’t find too many of them at just any market. The events have to be intended for and welcoming to witches! That’s what we are and knowing where to put our time and energy is how we stay true to ourselves and our magical community.
